Sorry, a day late but here’s a Thoughtful Thursday which was inspired by the changing seasons, colours and temperature we have noticed this week.

The change in season is nature’s reminder to slow down, reset, and nourish ourselves differently.

Here are 5 seasonal food tips to boost your body + mind this Autumn :

1️⃣ Root & Ground: Carrots, beets, sweet potatoes = steady energy + happy gut.
2️⃣ Greens for Mood: Kale, collards, spinach = better focus + emotional balance.
3️⃣ Brain Boosters: Walnuts, flax, salmon = omega-3s to fight seasonal blues.
4️⃣ Fruit for Immunity: Apples, pears, citrus = vitamin C + antioxidants.
5️⃣ Warm & Cozy: Ginger, cinnamon, turmeric = improved digestion + calm mind.

Today is National Fitness Day… 💪🏻

My own fitness journey has been anything but linear. There were times I completely lost momentum, times I stopped training altogether. Over 10 years ago, it was my (now) wife who encouraged me to get back into fitness. That nudge helped me rediscover my strength both physically and mentally and it changed the direction of my life.

I know what it feels like to start again. I know how hard it can be to take that first step back, and how powerful it feels when you do.

So today, on National Fitness Day, I want to celebrate:
✅ Everyone finding the courage to start (or restart)
✅ Every small win, every rep, every drop of sweat
✅ The strength we all have inside us, even when it takes a while to find it

I came across this poem today by Donna Ashworth, and it reminded me of sharing a passage from SHINE by Gavin Oattes 🚀 with one of my previous teams. He wrote about the Mary Poppins who lights up the room whenever they walk in to it. In education, I wanted to build a team of Mary’s, or as this poem calls them, Yellows!

I wanted to help create a space where everyone we worked with, be it child or adult, had someone to lift them, who created warmth, love and care!

I try to do this daily for those that I meet, for everyone is deserving of some yellow. If kindness, a smile or some laughter is all that it takes, let’s fill this world with yellow, creating light wherever we go! ☀️

I am lucky to have people like this in my life, so if you have a Mary or a Yellow, go ahead and tell them how awesome they are!

💜Giving Back Gives Us More 💜

Being part of a community is about more than just living in a place, it’s about contributing to its heart.

I’m proud to be an Ambassador for Clan Cancer Support and to play an active role in supporting local initiatives. This Sunday, I’ll be volunteering at the Book Bench Farewell Weekend at the Music Hall, a fantastic celebration of creativity and connection. Please come along !

As well as running a local business in Aberdeen, I have taken part in litter picks in our local area and help support the running of a community-based exercise group Tunnel Training that offers free access to exercise for everyone.

Volunteering isn’t just about giving time, it’s about building resilience, finding purpose, and creating connections that improve mental and physical health for everyone involved. Research shows that acts of giving can boost happiness, reduce stress, and strengthen community ties.
