Last night we had a very thoughtful and engaging discussion about Rushing Women’s Syndrome by Dr Libby Weaver.

Here are our thoughts:

Overall, the group really enjoyed the book. Everyone felt it was well written, many said they would read it again, using at as reference and all agreed they would recommend it to others.

Some felt the science-heavy sections were a bit much at times; however, it was also acknowledged that this depth helped explain why certain changes are important and supported the case for taking action rather than just offering advice without reasoning.

A few members noticed some repetition, particularly around topics such as alcohol, and the section on menopause was felt to be too brief, wishing this important stage of life had been explored in more depth.

There was strong interest in the discussion around how our bodies were historically synced with natural rhythms, such as the moon, and how modern life-including time pressures, diet, and chronic stress has disrupted this connection.

There was also discussion around the guilt many women feel when taking time out for themselves. The book reinforced the well-known adage, “you can’t pour from an empty cup,” helping to reframe rest and self-care as essential rather than selfish.

Importantly, the book prompted real action. Some members shared that they are already making changes to their health, seeking further medical advice, and exploring additional resources, including purchasing Dr Libby’s recipe book.

We are now reading Cranial RelaxationTechniques by Michael Hetherington & will be discussing this on Thursday 5th March The Gray and White Bookshop over a coffee and biscuits.

Foody Friday 🍎🍐

Baked apples & pears with cinnamon and yogurt, a little sweetness without the sugar crash.

This was one of the simple, nourishing dishes we made together at the retreat.
A reminder that food doesn’t have to be complicated to be comforting, supportive and satisfying.

Warm fruit, gentle spices, and a dollop of yogurt - kind to your digestion, steady for energy, and perfect for slowing down and savouring the moment.

Sometimes it’s the simplest foods that help us feel most grounded 💛

Sunday’s Reset & Restore retreat was a truly gentle, nourishing day.
A lovely calm was shared by all, with people leaving feeling more grounded, relaxed and supported.

The health-coaching session helped bring everything together, offering practical guidance and simple, realistic changes around stress and sleep that participants could start using straight away. The meditation was also a highlight, creating space to pause, breathe and reconnect. A great way to start our day, & we thank Leomi of Yoga with Leo Leicester for joining us 🙏

Our welcoming snacks,
homemade bliss balls and oatcakes with hummus — were a hit too.

We were so present and in the moment that we forgot to take more photos ❤️

🍲 Foody Friday: Comfort Food (Seasonal & Simple)

Looking for something easy to make and warming on this cold wet January day, then try this homemade:

Creamy Leek & Potato Soup

This is classic comfort food, but made in a way that supports steady energy and warmth, especially welcome in January & delicious with a slice of warm sourdough on the side.

Why it’s supportive
• 🥔 Potatoes – grounding, comforting, gentle on digestion
• 🧅 Leeks – great for gut health and seasonal immunity
• 🥛 Protein & healthy fats – help keep you fuller for longer
• 🌿 Warm meals – calming for the nervous system

Quick Recipe (serves 2–3)

You’ll need:
• 2 leeks, sliced
• 2–3 medium potatoes, diced
• 1 garlic clove
• 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
• 750ml vegetable stock
• A splash of milk or cream (or oat milk)
• Salt & pepper
• Optional: fresh thyme or parsley

Method:
Either make it in a soup maker or
1. Gently soften leeks and garlic in olive oil or butter.
2. Add potatoes and stock, bring to the boil.
3. Simmer for 15–20 minutes until soft.
4. Blend until smooth, stir in milk or cream.
5. Season and serve warm.

Optional add-ins:
• White beans or red lentils for extra protein
• A sprinkle of seeds or cheese on top
• A slice of warm sourdough on the side.

A little Throwback Tuesday reflection.

In January 2025, I took on a charity challenge that involved building up time planking each day.

Planking wasn’t something I enjoyed, in fact, I had always avoided it. The usual excuses, I cannot do them, I don’t have the strength in my arms….

However I do like a challenge! Showing up consistently, even when it feels uncomfortable,
teaches me something important. I like the exhilarating feeling when the challenge is completed 🙌

Challenging yourself isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about discovering what you’re capable of
when you give yourself the chance.

Sometimes the biggest growth comes from gently stepping outside your comfort zone
and realising you can stay there longer than you thought.

Tell me what challenges have you done? Or planning on doing?

Today is Brew Monday, promoted by the Samaritans to encourage connection on so-called Blue Monday.

Remember though a chat over a cuppa can make a difference any day of the year.

So no matter what your brew, pick up the phone, arrange that brew date, and help someone from feeling blue 💛☕

Credit to The Tourist Box. the_tourist_box Ushuaia, for their smiley cup & saucer, what a fantastic idea ❤️. The coffee & service was excellent too 😊

This week I’ve been battling the dreaded cold that seems to be doing the rounds 🤧
Nothing dramatic… just that heavy, sluggish, run-down feeling.

What’s genuinely helped me feel a little more human has been keeping things simple and warm:
☕ a turmeric latte
🍋 hot water with fresh lemon
🍯 ginger & turmeric honey
🚶‍♀️a gentle walk & getting fresh air

Not a cure-all, but definitely supportive, along with some fresh air (I wrapped up nice & toasty).

Why these help:
• Turmeric – naturally anti-inflammatory, supports the immune system
• Ginger – warming, soothing for the throat, helps circulation
• Honey – antibacterial and gentle on a sore throat
• Lemon – vitamin C boost and hydration
• Warm drinks – comforting, help ease congestion and encourage rest
• Gentle movement- to support the circulation & lymphatic flow without draining energy
• Fresh air - helping to clear the head, & get rid of that foggy feeling, as well as calming the nervous system & improving mood.

Sometimes when our bodies are fighting something, the best support is warmth, hydration, and kindness rather than pushing through.

If you’re feeling under the weather, this might be your reminder to slow down and sip something nourishing 💛
