Those of you who know me well understand that martial arts have always been a huge part of my life. From watching Bruce Lee films on repeat at just 5 years old, to stepping into the Do Jang for the first time at 12 to train in Taekwondo, right through to more recently following the UFC with the same excitement —I’ve always been captivated by the discipline, spirit, and challenge that martial arts bring.
By 15, I had achieved my 2nd degree black belt and had the incredible honour of representing Scotland at both European and World level. Those years shaped so much of who I am today—teaching me resilience, respect, and how to push myself far beyond what I thought I was capable of.
Almost a year ago i reached out to Stevie Ray for some private striking sessions. A few months in and he managed to persuade me to give BJJ a try. Fast forward another few months and I’ve just taken delivery of my new Gi! So here I am once again, tying a white belt around my waist. It’s a strange feeling—humbling, even daunting at times—but it also feels like coming full circle. It’s a reminder that no matter what level you reach, growth always starts with being willing to go back to the beginning or starting something new, embrace the role of a student, and keep showing up with humility and determination.
For me, this isn’t about what colour belt I wear now. It’s about the mindset, the journey, and the lessons that come with starting over. And honestly—I’m excited. Excited to learn, to grow, and to prove to myself once again that progress comes from consistency, patience, and passion.
Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is put the ego aside, start from zero, and keep moving forward. 🥋
