MGVet Needing an experienced, dedicated locum vet in the county of Yorkshire? Then look no further

I qualified in 2007 from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh. In 2008 I joined Forest House Vets Ltd an RCVS accredited practice as a veterinary surgeon and was fortunate early in my career to be offered the opportunity to buy into the practice and become a shareholding director. The practice is mixed including emergency out of hours and sole charge, providing excellent care for companion, equine and farm animals, which ensures a diverse and interesting work load. Becoming a director enabled me to drive the business forward with branding, promotions and PR events. I also quickly took on the HR & personnel role, dealing with recruitment, settlement/redundancies and an employment tribunal. My time with the practice has seen my skill-set tuned and utilised to its best advantage enabling me to progress personally and professionally.

Vets are playing their part in reducing the spread of COVID19. This means that they're assessing and prioritising treatments on a case-by-case basis, but many are reporting undue pressure and even abuse from clients. Please 's decision at this time.

Preparing for a big New Years Eve party tonight? Parties are a very common time for our pets to get their paws on something they shouldn't. Whether it's rooting through a guests handbag or helping themselves to party snacks or unattended drinks, your pets may be getting up to mischief while you are distracted by the festivities.

Alcohol poisoning can occur in pets that have helped themselves to unattended alcohol and can cause drowsiness, low body temperature, low blood sugar and coma.

Party snacks can contain a variety of hazardous substances including onions, garlic, raisins, xylitol (in some sugar free foods) and chocolate. Keep these treats out of your pets reach and watch out for well-meaning guests handing them to the dog!

Fireworks can also be problematic for pets at this time of year. As well as being frightened by their loud noises, dogs can ingest fireworks found in the garden or parks. Used big display fireworks and unused domestic and display fireworks can contain potentially toxic components if ingested.

Animal PoisonLine and VPIS are here 24/7 for advice should any mishaps occur.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish you and your pets a very Happy (and toxin-free) New Year!

Merry Christmas!

A no deal brexit may impact on those owners wishing to travel to the EU with their pets. On 30 March 2019, for example, should discuss requirements with their vet as soon as possible and before the end of November 2018 at the latest.

In June 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union which will impact on many areas of interest to the veterinary profession. Our overriding aim is to ensure the best possible outcome for veterinary science, animal health and welfare and public health.
