This year, Luke and I are working together for my annual .hie fundraiser!

Luke will be doing the Mini Great Manchester Run on 30th May (with me tagging along for moral support), then I'll do the Great Manchester 10K on the 31st.

Peeps HIE is a wonderful parent-run charity for families of babies and children affected by hypoxic brain injury. All donations are gratefully received, and the JustGiving link is in the comments.

Charity laces installed!

To celebrate my first month at Alder Hey and Liverpool Women's, I threw my hat into the Alder Hey Children's Charity '100km in March' fundraiser. It's a great charity and if you feel like adding a pound or two, it will do very good things for the families I work with ❤️ Link for donations is in the comments.
(*NB: Luke and I are doing a bigger fundraiser for .hie that we'll be launching in the next week or two. So, you know... Maybe keep something aside for that too!)

📢 Speaker announcement!

We're thrilled that Sarah Edney will be joining us at our first H.I.E. Conference next May.

Sarah is a speech and language therapist and researcher specialising in neonatology and infant feeding disorders. Her work focuses on promoting and enhancing neurorehabilitation following neonatal brain injury, with a particular interest in improving feeding therapy provision and outcomes for infants affected by H.I.E.

For her PhD studies, Sarah recently completed a series of research projects exploring ways to improve feeding outcomes for families affected by H.I.E., working closely with many families from the Peeps community. She is looking forward to sharing and discussing her findings with us, and to applying these valuable insights in her new role establishing the first neonatal speech and language therapy service at the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership.

'More' is a popular first sign with many young children and early communicators. It can be used in a variety of situations to communicate for things your child enjoys - more milk, more biscuit, more cuddles, more swing, etc. 😃

If you are thinking about introducing your early communicator to signs but are not sure how to get started, please get in touch!

Exciting news! It's been a long time in the making but Liverpool Neonatal Partnership will finally have a speech and language therapy service in March 2026, led by me 🥳

By a lovely coincidence, my 7 year old just rediscovered the neonatal play set in his toy box. He says "Everyone is sleeping in the doctors area, except *this guy* (the doctor) because he never gets to sleep, but he's sleeping now because his boss (the nurse) is asleep so nobody will know." Except the nurse just woke up, shouted at the doctor and power-punched him out of the room. And now the star monsters have teleported into the neonatal unit. And from here I confess to having lost the thread of the plot, but sounds like a very exciting day at work 😂

Starting to make my way back from a fantastic (but exhausting!) EACD conference in Heidelberg, Germany. Shared a *tiny* amount of my PhD data on HIE feeding outcomes with a very interested audience. Still working on the parent interviews/qualitative analysis, can't wait to share all the integrated findings with you!

It's race day! Am I prepared?

Physically: More so than last year at least.

Mentally: Haven't had time to think about it really, just going to rock up and hope for the best!

Practically: Apparently not at all! No safety pins for my race number (same as last year 🙈), plus realised at 9.30pm last night all that stuff in my drawer is actually winter kit and none of my summer running kit is clean 😂 Emergency load of washing done ✅

Beautiful morning run before day 2 of the Maternal, Parental and Infant Nutrition and Nurture conference 🌞🥰🥳
