β Hay fever injections β
We have had a LOT of enquiries about hay fever injections, so we wanted to take a moment to explain why we do NOT offer this treatment at our clinic β and to help you make informed decisions about your health.
The injection in question is usually Kenalog (triamcinolone) β a powerful corticosteroid.
However, it is important to know that Kenalog is not licensed in the UK for treating hay fever, and it is a prescription-only medicine (POM). This means it should only be prescribed and administered after a full consultation by a qualified prescriber.
Kenalog injections are being discontinued in the UK due to concerns about potential side effects and long-term risks, with existing stock expected to be depleted by early June 2025.
Why we donβt offer it:
Over recent years, concerns have been raised around the potential side effects and long-term risks associated with corticosteroid injections for hay fever. In light of this, and following NHS guidance, GPs no longer routinely offer Kenalog injections for this purpose.
While some private clinics still provide them, we have made a clinical decision to prioritise patient safety and do not offer this treatment.
Possible side effects include:
β’ Suppressed immune function
β’ Impact bone health, potentially leading to osteoporosis or brittle bones.
β’ Raised blood pressure
β’ Headaches
β’ Dizziness
β’ Water retention
β’ Skin rashes
β’ Muscle weakness
β’ Swelling
β’ Osteoporosis (bone thinning)
β’ Mood changes and weight gain
β’ Increased risk of infections
β’ Adrenal suppression (your body stops making natural steroids)
We believe in offering only safe, evidence-based treatments that align with current best practice. If you are struggling with hay fever, your GP or pharmacist can advise on safer, licensed options that may be more suitable.
Your safety will always be our priority.
