Trauma traps parts of us at the age we were when we felt the least safe. We judge those parts for being stuck but those parts didn’t know we grew up and have been fiercely trying to survive and protect us for such a long time they are exhausted.

Therapy can help the parts of ourselves that are stuck or feel separate merge, and grow so we can see and be our true selves.

Brains after experiencing complex childhood trauma are wired not to look for safety but to look for danger. Safety isn’t real because something always happens, there is no consistent safe person and even if there was often they have been programmed to not trust anyone or something worse will happen.

It takes time to realise what happened.
It takes time to understand what happened.
It takes time to learn new ways of responding to yourself and others.

When complex trauma has been experienced it takes time to push through the loss, the fear, the loneliness, to build trust in yourself and others.

Therapy isn’t about getting fixed it’s about growth through the darkness with someone by your side, being curious, being kind, not judging you who understands the darkness and can be a constant connection so the journey through the darkness doesn’t feel so lonely.

Therapy isn’t weakness it’s you being courageous and believing in yourself enough to try and change how things currently are.

Anyone dreading the start of a new week?

You’re not the only one - January is when a lot of people realise they can’t carry on in the same way they have done.

If you would like support to think things through Therapy can be a really great place to do this. By giving you a sounding board and helping you to see the small steps within the bigger steps as well as problem solving the obstacles helping change to not feel so overwhelming.

What happens when you overthink every conversation, every action you make?

You become so exhausted it’s hard to complete even the most basic of tasks.

It doesn’t mean your broken it means your body is working hard to meat demands and keep you safe, it’s trying to communicate to you.
