Fibromyalgia and me
Some days my body feels like it’s carrying a storm no one else can see.
Fibromyalgia isn’t just “aches and pains.” It’s waking up exhausted after a full night’s sleep. It’s muscle pain that burns, throbs, and crawls. It’s joint stiffness, nerve pain, brain fog that steals words mid-sentence, headaches, tender skin, and sensitivity to noise, light, temperature, and even emotions. It’s fatigue so deep it feels cellular. It’s plans cancelled, energy rationed, and learning—again and again—that pushing through has consequences.
What I find harder each day isn’t just the pain.
It’s living in a world that can’t see it.
The judgement.
The “but you look fine.”
The expectation that if I’m smiling or showing up, I must be okay.
Invisible disabilities teach you how isolating misunderstanding can be.
But here’s the truth I stand in proudly: I am not broken. I am healing—my way.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve chosen a natural path. I’ve leaned deeply into the knowledge I’ve gained through my aromatherapy diploma and herbalist studies, supporting my body with plants, oils, nourishment, rest, and learning to truly listen to what my body needs. No pharmaceutical drugs. Just intention, consistency, and respect for my limits.
One of the most powerful tools on this journey has been breathwork.
Studying to become a breathwork facilitator has completely changed my relationship with my nervous system. Living in constant pain often means living in a constant state of fight-or-flight. Through breathwork, I’ve learned how to regulate my nervous system, calm flare-ups, reduce overwhelm, soften anxiety, and create moments of safety within my own body. On days when pain is loud, my breath becomes my anchor. A reminder that even when everything feels out of control, I still have something I can return to.
This journey isn’t easy. Natural healing isn’t a quick fix or a miracle cure. It’s daily commitment. It’s patience. It’s unlearning guilt around rest. It’s choosing gentleness over force. It’s trusting my intuition even when others don’t understand my choices.
Fibromyalgia has taken things from me—but it has also given me resilience, compassion, and a profound connection to my body, my breath, and the natural world.
If you’re walking a similar path, especially with an illness no one can see, know this:
Your pain is real.
Your experience is valid.
Your healing doesn’t need anyone else’s approval.
I choose hope.
I choose knowledge.
I choose natural healing.
I choose my breath.
And even on the hardest days, I choose to keep going.
