St Armands Court specialise in residential care for elderly family members. We're based on 25 Church Lane in Garforth, Leeds.

St Armand's Court is a care home in the Garforth area of Leeds, which can accommodate 40 residents. The CQC has rated the home as 'Good'. St Armand's Court provides a warm and inviting residential setting for care of the elderly. St Armand's Court sister home is located next door and provides specialist care for those living with dementia. Inside the home there are two large communal lounge areas, a conservatory and dining room for socialising and relaxing. There is also an outdoor courtyard area for socialising and gardening activities. The home prides itself on the warm, friendly and caring nature that staff give to their residents to ensure they remain happy, content and as independent as possible. The dedicated and long-serving staff are active at addressing any issues, problems or anxieties residents face when moving into a new care environment. A team of knowledgeable professionals with a wealth of skills and experiences provide support and guidance to residents from a range of backgrounds with a variety of care and support needs, including a weekly round from the local Doctor. The social atmosphere is enhanced by a flexible programme of activities which focuses on physical and emotional health, while looking to make the most of community links and personal interests.

Slightly belated, but over Christmas we participated in Christmas jumper day and raised £106 for Save the Children. Well done to the staff team for raising money through wearing Christmas jumpers, raffle and games.

One of our very thoughtful residents is wanting to raise money for St Gemma's hospice and is currently knitting blankets, pillow cases and stuffed animals at varying prices. If you would like to donate wool, or purchase something (or put an order in!) please get in touch 😀

We held a Brew and Bake event for the Combat Stress Charity, supporting veterans, on Friday. Residents played board games, cake sale and guess the name of the boat. £55.00 was raised by those who attended, with Garforth Care Homes match funding the donation to £110.00! Well done all 😊

A reminder to invite you all to our VE day celebrations on the 5th May

On Friday all the staff participated in a dementia training day with the Virtual Dementia Tour.

Staff comments about the training included:

It gave "An insight into how people with dementia feel", "A new perspective" on residents in care settings.

It made them feel "Not in control", "Confused", "Agitated", "Vulnerable".

Staff said it was "scary watching somebody who doesn't know what to do" and they liked "being able to observe other carers being put in the position of residents as it was grounding to see the changes in behaviours and their characters".

Staff spoke about what they will take away from the training and their thoughts and reflections:

"I want to be the best carer I can be and be more understanding"

"I'll be more knowledgeable about dementia and how it affects them. How scary it can be for them on a daily basis and how challenging it must be for them"

"It was very sentimental, emotional and uncomfortable... getting to really feel and experience what the residents go through it was educational"

"It was a reminder to be incredibly sensitive to the residents needs and why they may respond in a certain way due to being overwhelmed"

The training day also included Lifting the Lid (The Alzheimer's Society guide to intimacy in older people), following the Virtual Dementia Tour, where staff shared their thoughts and experiences of intimacy in those they support and group discussions held about how best to support residents where staff may themselves, feel uncomfortable.
