The human skull…! Magnificent engineering. 22 bones in total. Eight in the cranium, 14 in the face. They are all connected via sutures (joints) and should all move which helps us absorb an impact so to protect the brain. They can become a little sticky or stuck for many reasons such as a trauma/blow, but also from stress, teeth grinding/clenching, dental work, infections, hormones, forward head posture and any accidents further down the body. You do not have to hit your head or face to affect the bones or get a concussion..! This can cause a host of symptoms from headache/migraine, sinusitis and fatigue to pelvic pain, chronic achillies/calf/hamstring strains and incontinence! Craniosacral work can help all this by gently allowing the bones and soft tissues to move again working on the skull and face but also on other parts of the body. It really does bring life and energy back creating a sense of calm. If you’d like to know how this and other manual therapies I use may help you then please get in touch. I’m in Dingwall. Calves…..sun is out so legs are out! The calf. The muscles at the back of the lower leg. Gastrocnemius the bigger fleshier one towards the top of the calf and soleus, the more powerful muscle closer to the ankle. Tight and weak calves can leave you susceptible to numerous injuries including achillies issues, knee, groin and low back pain. It’s even been shown that tight calves lead to a shorter stride length which increases the risk of falls! So do you strengthen and stretch/massage your calves? Do you run, walk or cycle? Then you need to. Soleus is the most powerful muscle in the body, it helps keep us upright (important postural muscle), it propels us forwards and helps stop the shin bone butting up against the patellar tendon (just below kneecap) when the foot hits the ground. In cycling it’s important in stopping your heel drop so the power is transmitted to the drive chain. It is also an important muscle to help pump blood up to the heart. We say for each muscle you should be doing 3x 25 reps single leg (running and cycling are single leg sports aren’t they) after you’ve exercised…! For gastroc you keep a straight knee, for soleus you keep a good knee bend. So how many can you do? If you’re struggling with injury then maybe I can help you? Get in touch if you’d like to know more. Be Strong Be Stable Be Able Be Happy

The humble foot. It has 26 bones, 114 ligaments and 40 joints…! One of the most important structures of the body as it’s the only point of contact we have with the world (unless you’re a good handstander). It sends information to the cerebellum of the brain telling us about the surface we are on and how we need to adapt to stay upright. It “roots” us and grounds us. It tends to be overlooked, being shoved in a coffin (shoe) and expected to function well and affects us in many ways up to our jaw..! A tight foot doesn’t “listen” to the ground so we’re more prone to being off balance leading to falls, sprains and other injuries and pain including neck, jaw and pelvic floor dysfunction…! It’s a mobile rocker system enabling us to move forwards. Do you look after your feet? Massage? Foot function exercises? Balance work? Do a wee test. In bare feet do a squat. Notice what your feet do? Stand on one leg. What does that foot do? What do you do? Just notice :-) If you’d like to know more and how I may be able to help then please get in touch. Don’t forget your feet. Be Strong Be Stable Be Able Be Happy

🌟 Throwback to TIME Magazine! 🌟
Did you know that Visceral Manipulation was featured in TIME Magazine? It’s one of our favorite features to revisit—highlighting the revolutionary work of Jean-Pierre Barral, DO.

🫀 "Has Your Liver Been Liberated?" dives into how gentle, hands-on therapy focused on freeing up the motion of the body’s internal organs—like the liver—can address conditions such as:

✔️ Chronic back and joint pain
✔️ Migraines and headaches
✔️ Indigestion, incontinence, and more
✔️ Even concerns like impotence and sterility

This article introduced many to the concept that internal restrictions can contribute to musculoskeletal and systemic dysfunction—and that the body’s own healing potential is profound when those restrictions are gently released.

CPD time on the train to Aberdeen to see family then to Ayr on Monday for some amazing treatment. Got my books plus my colouring book. Colouring is mindful so why not enhance my knowledge at the same time :-) Had my high protein, high fat brekkie of three eggs, 1/2 avocado and salmon with a seed cracker I made. Coffee obviously 😜 Feeding and nourishing my brain and body so I’m focused and calm. Lots of fluid, salt and support socks for the POTS/Dysautonomia to offset the effects of travelling and breath work :-) It’s Friday 13th also….a great day celebrating the Goddess so it’ll be Goddess pose once I arrive at my parents. Happy weekend.

Morning yoga then shuffle and run drills along the River Lea before my next visceral course in Tottenham Hale. London is hectic but found some tranquility along the river watching rowers reminding me of another past life living in London and in the river at 6am.
