When everything feels like chaos, remember to breathe.

When everything feels like chaos, remember to breathe.

I'm not going to tell you it's going to be okay - it might not be. Or that it's all going to be alright - because maybe it will never again be alright in the way you have known alright until this moment. But right now, in this breath, you can draw in the exhale of the leaves around you and feel the warmth of your both capable and helpless hands spread to your chest as your heart marches into this moment one beat at a time.

For some of us, especially trauma survivors, the embodiment that comes with many mindfulness practices can be overwhelming. For those of us grieving, positive affirmations can feel like pebbles that reverberate in the empty cavern of loss. If long or open-ended mindfulness practices feel overwhelming or frightening because they leave space for anything (and everything!) To come up, focus instead on finding and feeling a single sensation for a single moment: the weight of your shoes on the floor, the warmth that moves from your hand as you place it on your chest, or the yawn of a muscle allowed for one moment to relax

As we leave 2020 behind for a new year, find time to ground, to breathe, and to notice.

We may have a 4 year old child who does walk and who I haven’t carried in the sling for well over a year. But several rainy days, and desperately needing a decent stroll about outside in spite of the rain we tried him in it again. He was delighted! It was pretty comfy still, but very odd to have his full running commentary and thoughts of the walk in my ear along the way. Thanks to the brilliant Teresa Varney at Carrymoor Sling Library for recommending and fitting this Tula sling ages ago, she knows her stuff!

A systematic review has shown that vaginal birth, breast feeding and mother-baby contact do not increase the chance of the baby developing SARS-COV-2, even where the mother has confirmed Covid-19.

A systematic review has shown that vaginal birth, breastfeeding and mother-baby contact do not increase the chance of a baby being infected with SARS-COV-2, even where a mother has confirmed COVID-19.
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
"Early reports of COVID‐19 in pregnancy described management by caesarean, strict isolation of the neonate and formula feeding." The authors of this systematic review asked, "is this practise justified?"
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
They wanted to estimate whether the chance of a baby being infected with SARS-COV-2 was affected by the mode of birth (vaginal birth or caesarean), the type of feeding and whether the mum and baby stayed together or not.
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
They searched the medical literature for relevant studies and found, "49 studies which included 666 neonates and 655 women where information was provided on the mode of delivery and the infant’s infection status.ā€
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
Their findings and conclusion? "28/666 (4%) neonates had confirmed COVID‐19 infection postnatally. Of the 291 women who delivered vaginally, 8/292 (2.7%) neonates were positive. Of the 364 women who had a Caesarean birth, 20/374 (5.3%) neonates were positive.
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
Of the 28 neonates with confirmed COVID‐19 infection, 7 were breast fed, 3 formula fed, 1 was given expressed breast milk and in 17 neonates the method of infant feeding was not reported.
šŸ¤±šŸ¾
Neonatal COVID‐19 infection is uncommon, uncommonly symptomatic, and the rate of infection is no greater when the baby is born vaginally, breastfed or allowed contact with the mother."

The latest white board before lockdown. This generated some really good discussions at the practice. Most people want to know how to take care of themselves during this time. Rest, movement, getting enough vitamin D and taking care of what you’re eating and thinking are high priorities for a healthy functioning immune system.

Hey, how's everyone doing? I wanted to share Brene Brown's latest podcast, if you haven't come across her work before I can highly recommend checking out her talks on youtube. This podcast episode is particularly poignant because she has some really practical and insightful things to say about where we are right now with what's happening in the world, especially as we're all finding our way with new and often pressured situations at home. If you have a moment, check it out! Let me know what you think! https://brenebrown.com/podcast/brene-on-comparative-suffering-the-50-50-myth-and-settling-the-ball/

We have collectively hit weary. This is especially true for the brave folks on the front lines of this pandemic and for the people who love and support them. And, it’s also true for all of us.

I feel similarly this evening on hearing this news and thought the information was worth a share.

I feel much sadness and frustration to hear of the alleged su***de of TV host Caroline Flack.

There are many reasons why people take their own life. Sometimes it’s described as a ā€˜choice’ but I don’t see it as a choice and more about the person feeling they have no choices. This saddens me deeply.

I’m going to take this moment to share useful numbers and contact details with you all.

We know it’s not just celebrities (although these are the people we tend to hear about) who end their own lives. Suicidal depressive states could affect any of us.

So here are some of the main contact details I know of.

Please share them and please do use them if you need to.

Some of the organisations on here have pulled one of the people I love the most back from ā€˜the brink’. They do support with compassion and integrity.

Stay with us.

Today’s white board question. What health habits do you struggle to do consistently?
I struggle to exercise regularly at different times of my cycle, so now I schedule 3 weeks of PT sessions with a week off to do more gentle exercise.
