Today, we kicked things off by getting halfway through our training session, then had our very first AGM (annual general meeting) since the Barnsley Sumo Club was founded.
Some of the lads got recognised for earning their ranks and grades from recent tournaments, and Alex ended up getting two awards — one for his ranking and another for bagging a gold medal. Well done, mate! I was chuffed to bits to receive the Fighting Spirit award too. I'll keep doing what I can to support the club going forward!

今日は、まずトレーニングを半分終え、それからバーンズリー相撲クラブ発足してから初めての年次総会が行われました。最近の競技会から、「段」や「級」を認定されたメンバーが、表彰されたり、競技会で金賞をとったAlexがダブルで表彰もされました。おめでとう！
有り難いことに僕も敢闘賞をいただきました。これからもクラブに何かと貢献させていただきます。

I think I stopped going to the gym and swimming around the time I left London. The weight crept on, and for years I felt increasingly unhappy with how I looked.
While feeling a bit stuck, I came across a Kundalini yoga class – and it really gave me the lift I needed. It boosted my energy, led me to complete a massage course, and even got me into a sumo club!
Though I had to stop attending due to a schedule clash, it was a brilliant class that helped me turn things around. I’d love to go back someday – highly recommended.

ロンドンを離れた頃からかな、ジム通いや水泳をしなくなったのは？体重は増え、鏡にうつる体型に嫌気が指してきてから数年。これではダメだと悶々としている時に、このクンダリニーヨガクラスに出逢いました。それから身体を動かすエネルギーが高まり、マッサージコースを修了したり、相撲クラブに参加したりと、今にいたります。相撲に入れ込んでヨガクラスから遠ざかって（時間帯が重なるんです。）しまいましたが、気分的に腐りかけていた方向性を180度切り替えてくれたとても良いクラスです。またいつか参加したいなと思い続けています。おすすめです。

Bit of a follow-up on today’s sumo comp, hosted by the British Sumo Federation. I finally got to meet Rob Ó Néill, the head of the federation. Honestly, I was quite chuffed! Just like in that BBC interview photo from 2023, he’s got this really cool, commanding presence – proper charismatic bloke. But when you chat with him, he’s actually super kind and down-to-earth. I wonder how you’d say “威光を放っている” in English – maybe something like “he’s got a real aura about him”?

今日の英国相撲連盟主催の競技大会、その続きです。連盟の会長であるRob Ó Néill氏に今回ついにお会いすることが出来ました。なんだか嬉しかったです。2023年にBBCの取材を受けた時の写真の通りクールな印象で、威厳があってかっこいい方です。でも、話すととても優しいのです。威光を放っているという表現が英語でうまく伝わるかなぁ？

We had a sumo competition today, hosted by the British Sumo Federation. Same venue as last time – Pen*stone, near Barnsley. I was there again as part of the massage support team. I noticed someone who looked like a journalist hanging around, and turns out it ended up on ITV News! Everyone was pretty surprised afterwards – no one expected it to be ITV, of all places. The whole event felt a lot livelier and more buzzing than last time too.

今日は英国相撲連盟主催の競技大会でした。場所は前回と同じく、バーンズリー近郊のペニストン。そして、前回同様にマッサージのサポーターとして参加しました。何か取材記者の方が居るなと思っていたら、ITVのニュースになってました。皆んな後からビックリしてました。まさかITVだったとは。なんか前回より活気があって盛り上がった大会でした。

"Our very own George"
Meet Sumotori George Young – George has been with us from the very beginning, turning up every single session as a coach, and we couldn’t be more grateful. He travels all the way from Nottingham – over 50 miles – just to be here, and that kind of commitment really says it all. He’s also super involved in BSF events, always up for helping out and getting stuck in. His passion for sumo is second to none, and honestly, we don’t know what we’d do without him. So with that in mind, we’d love to give a shoutout to the Nottingham Sumo Club, run by none other than George himself. A retired army man and a talented photographer to boot, George’s got quite the range of skills. If you're anywhere near the Midlands and fancy giving sumo a go (or just having a nosy), pop down to the Nottingham Sumo Club – you’ll be made to feel right at home.

British Sumo Federation is hosting a tournament on 31st May, and it’s happening in the same place as last time – Pen*stone, near Barnsley. I’ll be offering free massages again in a quiet corner of the venue, so why not pop by for a relaxing massage while you’re enjoying the matches? Hope to see you there!
