🧠 Let’s rethink posture… and where it really begins

We often focus on where someone ends up
👉 the chair
👉 the positioning
👉 the equipment
But what about how they get there? 👀

Because even the most supportive seating won’t achieve the right outcome if the movement and handling into that position isn’t appropriate ⚖️

To really understand posture, we need to look at the foundations 🧩

At the very base are the sensory systems:
👋 Tactile
🌀 Vestibular
💪 Proprioceptive

These underpin everything from balance and coordination to attention and engagement.

From there, we build postural security ✔️

But this can only develop when movement and handling are safe, consistent, and tailored to the individual.

If we skip these steps and jump straight to positioning, we risk:
⚠️ Poor alignment
⚠️ Reduced engagement
⚠️ Limited participation

Because the way someone is moved and handled directly impacts their ability to:
✔️ Maintain posture
✔️ Engage with their environment
✔️ Participate in meaningful activity

Moving & handling isn’t just a task.
It’s part of:
🔹 Occupational therapy
🔹 Physiotherapy
🔹 Daily living
🔹 Communication and learning

It’s a key contributor to function and development 🌱

So before focusing on the final position, it’s worth asking:
💭 Have we supported movement effectively?
💭 Have we considered sensory needs?
💭 Are we building from the ground up?

Because when the foundations are right… everything else follows 💫

This week, Dani delivered Basic Life Support (BLS) training at Innova Care Concepts 👏

It was a great session focusing on essential, life-saving skills, building confidence, knowledge, and readiness to respond in emergency situations 🚑

Training like this is so important, ensuring staff feel prepared, supported, and able to act quickly when it matters most ⏱️

A big thank you to the team at Innova Care Concepts for having us it was a pleasure working with you all 🙌

And of course… no training session is complete without Dani’s sweets we’re starting to think they’re part of the learning strategy! 🍬😄
