After three years of reduced mobility, muscle atrophy, and altered movement patterns, Mr T developed retropulsion in standing (a tendency to lean backwards). In Mr. T’s case, this is influenced by several factors, including reduced muscle strength, altered sensation, and limited control of his centre of gravity. In this session, we are practising standing with his hands placed on his pelvis to provide tactile feedback, helping him become more aware of his postural alignment. This encourages activation of his lumbar spinal muscles, which have been largely inactive for 2–3 years. By improving his posture, Mr. T has achieved greater clearance during gait re-training, contributing to significant overall improvements in his function.
