After three years of reduced mobility, muscle atrophy, and altered movement patterns, Mr T developed retropulsion in standing (a tendency to lean backwards). In Mr. T’s case, this is influenced by several factors, including reduced muscle strength, altered sensation, and limited control of his centre of gravity. In this session, we are practising standing with his hands placed on his pelvis to provide tactile feedback, helping him become more aware of his postural alignment. This encourages activation of his lumbar spinal muscles, which have been largely inactive for 2–3 years. By improving his posture, Mr. T has achieved greater clearance during gait re-training, contributing to significant overall improvements in his function.

Patient Journey Update ⭐️ 💪🏽

Martin suffered a stroke, but his determination in rehab has been nothing short of inspiring! In the early stages of recovery, it’s so important to stay consistent with exercises to rebuild strength, coordination, and confidence—and Martin has done just that.

A major goal was getting him in and out of a car so he could attend a family function. This takes strength, balance, control, and trust in his abilities, and he absolutely nailed it!

Huge progress so far, and we’re only moving onwards and upwards. Keep going, Martin! ⭐️

Stroke rehabilitation in action! 🚶‍♂️⛳️

Martin suffered a stroke in September 2024, leaving him with right-sided weakness, increased muscle tone, and reduced coordination, impacting his mobility. As an avid walker and keen golfer, this was a huge shock—but also his driving motivation.

Through our Physiotherapy sessions, Martin has progressed from being unable to walk, to using a zimmer frame. More recently, we’ve been challenging his balance and coordination.

At Jayna Radia Physiotherapy, we thrive on individualized goal setting, working closely with our clients to regain independence and improve quality of life.

Well done, Martin—the hard work continues! 👏🏽💫

*Spinal Cord Injury*

A spinal stroke occurs when the blood supply to the spinal cord is disrupted, blocking the flow of oxygen-rich blood. This deprives the spinal cord of oxygen and also inhibits the transmission of nerve impulses throughout the spinal cord. Lack of oxygen-rich blood in the spinal cord can result in cell damage and death, impacting proper function. This can impact sensation, movement, muscle tone thus leading to paralysis.

Physiotherapy is able to a stimulate neuroplasticity in a variety of ways. Neuroplasticity is the central nervous system’s ability to rewire itself by creating new neural pathways and strengthening existing ones.

Please take a moment to read a short summary of Pete’s journey since December 2022- he continues to improve daily and has the motivation to make a full recovery through our Physiotherapy sessions.

Well done Pete! 👏🏽

The smile says it all!

Brenda has had a challenging couple of years with her mobility, varying from using a full hoist, to a rotunda. However with her sheer determination and perseverance through our Physiotherapy sessions, she’s now consistently using the rotunda, meaning she is able to exercise several times daily.

The benefits of her improved mobility are vast- including strengthening her muscles, improving ciriculation, lung capacity, and so much more!

Thank you to Brenda’s family for their valued input between sessions ⭐️
