I had a brilliant day yesterday doing my "Pain management and Aromatherapy" CPD course at Penny Price Aromatherapy. Thank you Sandra Oram for your excellent leading and teaching. My passion for aromatherapy, my oils and my enthusiasm for essential oil chemistry is as strong as ever! I made up a brilliant blend in class with terpenes, oxides, phenols and alcohols that has really knocked my cold for six! BRILLIANT!!!

I have a rotten cold /man flu, so have been using my essential oils to relieve my symptoms. Ravensara and Black sruce applied to my chest help to clear the tubes. Why use synthetic medication when I have nature's own remedies at my disposal!

I made up an aromastick for a client yesterday who was experiencing nausea and vomiting on almost every movement. A foot massage helped the client relax. I used Menta arvensis [cornmint], Zingiber officinalis [ginger] and Citrus aurantifolia [lime] essential oils - 2 drops each in the massage blend and 7 drops of each to saturate the wick of the aroma stick.

I made up some more of my rich hand cream today as ny skin is always breaking around my nails. Think it must be all the handwashing I do at work! Anyway my cream has got Roman chamomile, Canadian balsam, Geranium, Lavender and Benzoin [when it eventually came out of the bottle!] essential oils in it. A super skin healing blend.

I have had a blitz on Clove bud oil today! It's high in phenol (Eugenol) , and is a superb analgesic as well as being anti-bacterial, and immuno-stimulating. I used it chiefly for its analgesic properties with Lavender and Marjoram & Black pepper and Plai. (Analgesic & anti-inflammatory). I nevernliked Clove oil at one time, but now I love it's warm aroma!

I made up a pot of cream (50 ml) with 5 drops each of Eucalyptus smithii (gully gum) , Zingiber cassumunar (plai) and Aniba rosaeodora (rosewood) for a frail elderly patient who was experiencing arthritic pain in the knee. The person found that the cream provided relief from pain. The blend contains sesquiterpenes , alcohols & oxides. It is anti-inflammatory and analgesic.

Sore dry eyes due to hay fever? Soak a couple of facial cleansing pads in cold water and spray them with Rose Hydrolat. Place them over your eyes for a very soothing effect. Chamomile hydrolat works well too.

Last week I bought some Leptospermum scoparium [manuka] essential oil. This oil is often referred to as "New Zealand Tea tree oil". It is from the same plant family [Myrtaceae] as Australian tea tree oil, and has similar properties. Chemical profile: Mono and sesquiterpenes, alcohols [mono and sesquiterpenols] ketones. Properties: analgesic, [muscular tension, sprains, joint stiffness and rheumatism]; antibacterial [Staphylococcus aureus]; antifungal [athlete's foot]; respiratory [bronchitis]. Also reputed to be uplifting for anxiety, depression and stress, but its aroma is not as clean and clinical as that of tea tree oil.

My cover photo is the distillation equipment at Jersey Lavender farm. Sadly I didn't see it in use, because it was too early in the season when I visited.
