After months of campaigning by Adoption UK with others in the sector alongside thousands of families, we warmly welcome confirmation by the Children’s Minister that the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF) will continue for 2026/27. We await clarity on the details. We have fought hard for public consultation about reforms to the Fund and are pleased to see the Minister commit to this in today’s statement. It is crucial that reforms are in the best interests of adopted children, that the impact of this year’s cuts are carefully considered, that consultation is thorough and reforms not rushed through. https://ow.ly/teJi50WR97N

“Play”: what does it mean to you?

“Play is the work of childhood”
“Play is how children learn”
“Parents should play with their children”
“Parents get in the way of children’s play”
“Play should be self directed by the child”
“Play should be structured by an adult”

We all have different experiences of play! It means different things depending on how you grew up, your culture, what part of the world, accessibility, context, your values and your own unique interests.

Yet somehow, “play” seems to have become another yardstick by which to judge parents and children. Another thing by which we measure worth and output, in the capitalist, white supremacist patriarchy.

To me, play is about connection (to self and to other) And to me, that cannot be commodified ❤️

Grey areas: the space in between, the uncertainty, the unknown. Grey areas can be scary, uncomfortable places to be. As humans we like to know what’s coming, we like to be able to predict what will happen, we like to feel in control, we like to have the answers. So we stay out of grey areas.

It takes a great deal of courage to begin to open the door to grey areas…internal and external ones.
We never know what we might find. It could challenge everything we thought we knew.
And yet- what a gift! To grow, to expand, to let go of things that keep us stuck, to open to new opportunities and new ideas and new relationships…who knows‽ ❤️❤️❤️

This is a vital moment to recognise the voices of women who’ve experienced trauma during birth. ❤️

This year, the focus is on marginalised groups who face additional barriers in maternity care, from racial disparities to the challenges faced by disabled and neurodivergent mothers, younger and older mothers and more.

We stand with those speaking out. Let’s listen. Let’s learn. ❤️
