On Wednesday the Oral Health Team attended the Best Start in Life Conference at Beaumanor Hall. The team promoted their free Oral Health and Supervised Toothbrushing training offers for early years settings and primary schools, while networking and making new connections. across the county. It was a great opportunity to talk teeth! And fantastic to see so much support for improving children’s oral health across the county.

It’s really important for young children to learn how to look after their teeth from an early age. This helps prevent tooth decay and means fewer children need teeth taken out. Healthy teeth help children eat their food, talk clearly, keep space for their new grown‑up teeth, and feel happy and confident when they smile.

While our individual actions matter, when it comes to mental health, when we come together, we are even more powerful.

Connect is one of the ‘5 Ways To Wellbeing' and a theme that can be incorporated into our daily lives. It is known that social relationships are critical for promoting well-being and for acting as a buffer against mental ill health and, as a result connecting with people around us and building on these connections and networks is important for our wider health and wellbeing

With the support of Local Area Coordinator Kristi, the 'Braunstone Community Life’s craft group' in Braunstone Town is sharing acts of kindness with the local community.

The group have created beautiful hand crocheted and knitted blankets, with the aim of bringing comfort and reassurance to others.🧶🧶

After previously donating a blanket to a child in foster care, an experience that was incredibly meaningful for the group, they are now donating around 30 more blankets. These will be passed on to children in care, or children facing periods of change or challenge, offering warmth and a reminder that people care.

This is a great example of Connect in action - people connecting, building relationships, and offering comfort and care where it’s needed most. Local acts of compassion that make a real difference. 🫶

May is National Walking Month and to help support our residents to maintain good mental health and wellbeing we are promoting the Five Ways to Wellbeing (5WTWB) framework: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.

Each theme can be incorporated into our daily lives to help build resilience and provide coping strategies to help support overall good mental health and wellbeing. Simple things like going for a walk, joining a local community group, learning something new or helping a neighbour, can all go towards improving our overall wellbeing.
