Maternal Mental Health Week 🤍

However your journey into parenthood has looked or is unfolding right now…
Please know this:

You are not alone

Behind so many smiles are quiet moments of overwhelm, questions, doubt, exhaustion, and everything in between. And all of it is valid. There is no “right” way to feel.

Whether you’re feeling joyful, anxious, disconnected, tearful, or all of those in the same hour, and it’s worrying you, reach out.

Reaching out can feel like a big step—but it can also be the start of feeling lighter.

Today, on International Bereaved Mother's Day, we honour the mothers who have experienced miscarriage, lost a child, or grieve the child that they couldn't have due to infertility or other reasons.

Losing a child comes with profound grief and it can feel lonely when others don't know how to recognise or acknowledge your loss. It can be a difficult and emotional time in the lead up to Mother's Day.

PANDA and are here to support you.

If you would like to chat to someone about what you're going through, you can call the Pink Elephants Pregnancy Loss Helpline powered by PANDA on 1300 726 306.

Becoming a parent is a deeply personal journey, and those early postnatal weeks can bring a wealth of emotions and experiences. At Maven, postnatal care isn’t just something we offer — it’s something we truly care about.

Whether you’re welcoming your first baby or your fifth, and however your birth story unfolded, we’re here to support you. Every experience, every expectation, every family is different — and we honour that.

The transition into parenthood can feel joyful, overwhelming and uncertain — often all at once. You don’t have to navigate it alone.

We offer care that fits around you and your family — whether that’s a one-off visit, feeding support, newborn checks, or a fully tailored postnatal package.
Supportive care is never one-size-fits-all — it’s individual, responsive, and led by you.

There is SO much information out there.
And so many people wanting to give you advice or share what they feel is right.

But how do you know what’s right for you.

Take your time and to explore your options to feel fully informed….

Try not to compare yourself to others.
Try not to feel pressured by what you see online or around you.
Try not to rush decisions if you don’t have to.

Do ask questions.
Do seek support when you need it.
Do take time to understand what feels right for you — and what feels safe.

How amazing is your body? And your baby?? Check this out 👀❤️

20/04/2026

baby’s ears begin developing early in pregnancy, around 6–8 weeks, but it’s not until about 18–20 weeks that they can start to detect sounds. By 24–25 weeks, their hearing becomes much more developed, and they can respond to noises both inside and outside the womb.

Inside the uterus, your baby is surrounded by a soft, muffled world of sound — your heartbeat, breathing, and even your digestion create a constant rhythm. But amazingly, they can also begin to recognise voices from the outside, especially their parents’.

By the third trimester, babies often show a preference for familiar voices and may even react with movement or changes in heart rate when they hear them. That’s why talking, reading, or singing to your bump can be such a special way to bond 💕

Every little sound is part of their first experience of the world — and they’re already listening to you.

✈️🤰 Planning a holiday while pregnant?

At Maven Midwives, we love supporting families to enjoy special time away while keeping both you and baby well.

Here are our top tips for safe travel during pregnancy:

🌍 Before you go
• Check your fit to fly status with your midwife or doctor – most airlines require documentation after 28 weeks. We can provide these for you.
• Review your travel insurance carefully – make sure pregnancy is covered (including any complications and early birth)
• Research healthcare facilities at your destination, just in case

💧 Stay hydrated
• Drink plenty of water, especially when flying
• Cabin air is very dry, so keep sipping throughout your journey

☀️Sun safety
You will be more susceptible to the sun and heat. Sun hat, sun cream with a high SPF, and shady spots will help.

🥗 Food safety matters
• Avoid high-risk foods (like unpasteurised cheeses, undercooked meats, and certain seafood)
• Be mindful of food hygiene standards abroad

🧘‍♀️ Keep moving
• On flights or long journeys, walk around regularly and do gentle leg exercises
• Wear compression stockings if advised to reduce risk of clots (get measured and fitted properly).

☀️ Listen to your body
• Rest when you need to
• Avoid overly busy itineraries — this is your time to relax

💼 Pack smart
• Bring your maternity notes
• Include any medications, snacks, and comfort items

Every pregnancy is different, so personalised advice is key ✨
If you’re planning a trip and want tailored guidance, we’re here to help.
