The clocks go forward in the UK and Ireland on 29th March.

If you’re already trying to work out…
“Do I move bedtime earlier? Later? Do nothing?!”
I guarantee you’re not alone.

The truth is, there’s no one “perfect” way to handle it.

✨ You can shift things gradually
✨ You can meet in the middle
✨ Or you can do nothing and let it settle

What matters most is choosing an approach that suits your child and sticking with it

And here’s the good news if you’ve got an early riser, this is your chance to shift mornings later 🙌

That 5am wake up?
It can become 6am overnight

👉 The key is to be consistent and protect your routine afterwards

If you've been struggling with early wakes for a while, comment EARLY below and I'll send you my guide to early waking.

Save this now so you’re not overthinking it on the day and share it with a mum who needs this

Weeks and weeks of 5:30am starts… solved in just one 30-minute troubleshooting call.

Yes sometimes all you need is clarity, not more exhaustion.

This mum came to me feeling defeated. She truly believed the early wakes were “just how Albie was.”
But during our call, it became clear that Albie’s body clock had simply learned the wrong wake-up time.
With a few targeted tweaks and some consistency, his mornings shifted within a week.

If you’re struggling with early wakes too, here are a few tips you can start today:

✨ 1. Protect the morning message
Keep your little one in a dark, calm sleep space until your desired wake time—even if they wake early.
✨ 2. Anchor the first nap
Don’t bring it earlier just because wake-up was early. This keeps the body clock from drifting backwards.
✨✨ 3. Check bedtime timing
Make sure bedtime isn’t too early or too late. Babies can only manage a certain amount of sleep in 24 hours - if bedtime is off, mornings often shift earlier.
✨ 4. Be consistent
Early mornings usually improve fastest when the routine is stable and predictable.

I’m Kate .sleepy.mama - baby & toddler sleep consultant and mum of three. From a simple 30-minute troubleshoot call to a full 1:1 sleep package with three weeks of support, there’s a solution to meet you exactly where you are.

You don’t have to struggle through sleep challenges alone. I’m here to help you get your evenings and your mornings back.

One of the most common fears I hear from parents is…

“What if they wake the other kids?”
I get it - I was exactly the same.

I tiptoed around, rushed in at every sound, fed back to sleep, brought her into my bed… all because I didn’t want to disturb the rest of the house.

But what I didn’t realise was that my inconsistent responses were actually creating more night wakes, not preventing them.

Once I committed to a calm, predictable approach, everything shifted.
She learned.
I relaxed.
And the whole house slept better.

If you’re stuck in that same cycle, you’re not alone and you don’t have to feel confused and I overwhelmed
✨ If you need a sleep plan that supports your child and takes into account that you have other little ones in the house, comment “sibling” and I’ll send you the details.

I’m Kate, baby sleep consultant and mum of 3. I’ve been where you are and I truly get it. If you want someone who understands and offers practical, real-world advice, follow along .sleepy.mama

If this post l made you think “that’s us”, you’re not alone.

Hourly wakes don’t mean your baby is broken.
And they don’t mean you’ve done anything wrong.

Often, it just means feeding and sleep have become a little tangled and your baby hasn’t learned another way to fall asleep yet.

Here are my top tips for gently reducing night feeds and helping your baby fall asleep without milk:

✨ Move the bedtime feed earlier
Feed earlier in your bedtime routine so your baby is less likely to fall asleep while feeding.
This helps separate feeding and sleep.

✨ Prioritise full feeds in the day
Getting enough calories during the day can reduce the need to comfort feed and snack overnight.

✨ Introduce feeding times at night
Set times you’ll offer a feed, for example every 4 hours.
If your baby wakes before then, resettle them back to sleep using another method.

✨ Choose an alternative settling method
Rocking, patting, shushing. Choose one and stick with it consistently.

This isn’t about withholding milk your baby genuinely needs. It’s about gently teaching them a new way to fall asleep and supporting better sleep for both of you.

Nightmares vs. Night Terrors - what’s the difference?

If your little one wakes in the night screaming or crying, it can be so distressing but understanding what’s happening can really help.

🌙 Nightmares usually happen in the second half of the night. Your child may wake fully, remember the dream, and want comfort.
😵‍💫 Night terrors happen earlier in the night. Your little one might cry, scream, or thrash but they’re actually asleep and won’t remember it in the morning.

➡️ How to help:

Keep bedtime calm and predictable

Avoid any TV/movies/books that might scare them - especially before bed

Avoid overtiredness (it’s a big trigger!)

If it’s a night terror, don’t try to wake them - just keep them safe and wait for it to pass.
