Phone updates. Car MOT. Boiler service.

Most of us stay on top of these without thinking twice.

But when did you last add your health to that list?

We get so caught up in the latest diet, health hack, or product everyone's talking about and forget about the big ones.

These aren't just "admin" appointments. They could literally change your life.

๐—˜๐˜†๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ - Think it's just about whether you need glasses? Think again. Your eyes can reveal signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, MS, and even early indicators of brain tumours โ€” often before you have any other symptoms. Your eyes are literally a window into your body's health. Mind. Blown.

I bet at least one of those is on your to-do list.

2.5 years out of corporate.

And my nervous system still hasn't got the memo.

For 20+ years I worked in fast-paced, reactive roles. Always on. Always juggling. Always waiting for the next thing to blow up.

I was wired for urgency - and honestly? I got really good at it.

But I chose a different life. Slower. Freer. More me.

The thing nobody tells you is that your body doesn't just... switch off.

I still catch myself feeling like everything needs to happen right now. Still unlearning the people-pleasing. Still reminding myself I'm safe.

Leaving that world was the right decision. But the rewiring? That takes time.

I'm still a work in progress. But I'm out the other side and I'm finally learning that being kind to myself isn't optional. It's part of the healing.

What if the biggest shift wasn't losing the weight, landing the promotion, or finally having it all together?

What if it was the moment you stopped putting your own care on hold โ€” waiting for some future, 'better' version of yourself to deserve it?

You are not a work in progress who gets to rest when you're finished. You're a person. Right now. And right now is exactly when you deserve to be looked after.

Lighten Up Challenge Day 7: Digital Detox Lite - completed. โœ…

It's the final day. And honestly? This one might be the trickiest.

Not because it's hard. But because our phones are designed to keep us engaged.

One deleted app leads to a scroll. One photo leads to a memory hole. One WhatsApp check leads toโ€ฆ you know...

Here's what I tackled:
- Recent photos sorted into albums - holiday pics, Nora pics, the ones I actually want to keep, deleted the randoms.
- Apps I haven't opened in 6 months - gone.
- Social platform notifications updated - sounds off!
- WhatsApp chats archived. Groups I never engage with? Left. No guilt.

All my apps already live in folders which keeps my home screen calm and clear - if you haven't tried this, genuinely life changing.

Why is this so important?

Every notification is a tiny alert signal to your nervous system. Ping = react. Even when you ignore it, your body still responds.

Reducing digital noise lowers that constant background tension. That feeling of always being on? It softens.

Today's reward? Leaving my phone at home when I go out later and acting like it's 1995. ๐Ÿ“ต

Lighten Up Challenge: Wardrobe Reality Check - done. โœ…

Day 6 and we're diving into clothes.

And with spring upon us? Perfect timing.

My rule is simple - If I didn't wear it this winter, I probably won't wear it next winter.

Out it goes.
Anything that doesn't fit - sell it or donate it. Anything saved for "best" - wear it now.

Because honestly? My "best" these days is any occasion that isn't walking my dog Nora or working from home.

Which means everything is fair game.

Getting the summer clothes out always feels like discovering a new wardrobe - things you forgot you had, colours that make you smile, that one dress you're genuinely excited to wear again.

Here's what we forget about wardrobe clutter -

Every unworn item quietly whispers: "You should." "You used to." "You might."

So thatโ€™s definitely emotional clutter. And it's exhausting in a way you don't even realise.

Fewer choices. Calmer mornings. More breathing room.

Todayโ€™s reward? Choosing tomorrow's outfit from the things I actually love - get outside and show the world I own more than yoga pants and dog walking joggers.

What's your wardrobe rule? Keep everything or ruthless editor?

Lighten Up Challenge Day 5: What You Carry - done. โœ…

Right. You might remember this bag.

I mentioned it in a previous post - the gym bag from the noughties that has somehow survived 7 house moves. YES 7.

Today was the day.
Contents? I'm so glad you asked.

An old digital camera. A laptop I can't even log into. (I've been keeping it because I'm genuinely curious what's on it - answers on a postcard for how to get into an old laptop) More cables. Obviously. And various bits I'll be honest I can't even identify that went straight in the bin.

It's been dumped in my spare room since I moved last June. And every single time I walk in there I say to myself "I really need to deal with that."

That's not just mess. That's your nervous system carrying weight it doesn't need to.

Physical clutter mirrors mental load. Every "I'll deal with it later" adds up.

Today - later finally arrived.

Today's reward? Taking it all to the second hand shops and feeling that weight lift.

Who else has a bag, a box or a corner that's been quietly guilt-tripping them for months?

Lighten Up Challenge Day 4: Workspace Calm - done โœ…

My workspace today.

Mine doubles as the lounge table which means it has a habit of collectingโ€ฆ everything.

Random post. Old notebooks. Multiple pens - because apparently one is never enough. And So. Many. Cables.

Gone. Cleared. Reset.

What's left? All I need to do my work.

When I'm trying to be creative or get through a busy day? That visual noise doesn't just distract me - it genuinely frustrates me.

Reduce the clutter. Close the tabs. Let your brain actually focus.

You're not bad at concentrating. You were just overstimulated.

Today's reward? A quiet cup of tea at a clear desk. No multitasking. Just peace and calm before I get stuck in. ๐ŸŒฟ

How does your workspace make you feel? Calm and focused or quietly chaotic?

Lighten Up Challenge Day 3: Bathroom Reset - completed!

The bathroom cabinets turn.

Even in a relatively tidy space there's always something hiding behind a door!

Expired products I'd been hanging onto. Things I bought with good intentions and never used. Duplicates I didn't realise I had, empty bottles - err why?!

In the words of N'Sync โ€” "Gone" and "Bye Bye Bye!"

Cluttered self-care spaces create tiny resistance. You don't even notice it consciously. But when something feels fiddly or effortful? You skip it.

A clear space makes caring for yourself easier. And when it's easier - you actually do it.

Less friction. More nurturing.

Hotel vibes optional but highly recommended. ๐Ÿ›

Tonight's reward? A long soak in the bath with my new book!

This is what 15 minutes of reset buys you.

Who else tackled their bathroom today? What's the most random thing you threw out?

Lighten Up Challenge Day 2: The Junk Drawer Reset - done. โœ…

Okay so I took today's challenge and ran with it a little.

The junk drawer? It got cleared out a few weeks ago so I had a head start! But the Tupperware cupboard and my fruit bowl?

A different story entirely. ๐Ÿ˜…

I switched to glass food containers last year - better for your health and no nasty chemicals leaching into your food, especially when reheating.

My old plastic Tupperware? Still there. Taking up space. Guilt-tripping me every time I opened the cupboard and random lids fell out.

Today it's gone. ๐Ÿ‘‹

(Psst โ€” if you haven't switched to glass yet, that's a post for another day!)

And the fruit bowl.

Somehow it had become a collection of random objects. An empty freezer bag. A battery. Empty vitamin jars. One of Noraโ€™s old dog chews and that bloody broken tin opener!

It is now doing its actual job. With actual fruit in it. Revolutionary.

Here's why this one matters.

Every bit of unfinished chaos whispers at your brain all day. "Sort me. Deal with me. Remember me."

It's background noise you don't even realise is there - until it's gone.

Finishing one small thing gives your brain a little dopamine high five. ๐Ÿ™Œ "Look at us. We complete things."

Tonight's reward? Opening that cupboard just for the satisfaction and prepping overnight oats with an apple from THAT fruit bowl.

Thank you, smug me, for being super organised. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Who else has a fruit bowl that's stopped being a fruit bowl? Tell me below - I can't be the only one!

Lighten Up Challenge Day 1: Bedside glow-up - done. โœ…

It feels like an invitation to bedtime.

My lamp, my crystal, my diffuser, a little dried flowers moment.

Everything else? In the drawer. Out of sight. Easy to find.

Here's why this matters more than you thinkโ€ฆ

When you wake up and when you wind down, your brain immediately scans the room.

Clutter says: "urgh we've got stuff to deal with." A clear, calm space says: "we're safe. We can rest."

Your nervous system gets that message before you've even pulled back the covers.

Tonight's reward? Turn on my diffuser, get cosy and start a new book. I've earned it.

Still want to join us? We're only on Day 1.

Not metaphorically. Literally!

Lighten Up starts tomorrow - my 7-day declutter challenge, just 15 minutes a day, to clear the physical clutter that's quietly draining your nervous system.

Less visual noise. Less mental load. More breathing room.

This is your last chance to join us!

Sign up today and tonight your first email lands in your inbox, ready and waiting.

Your brain loves finishing things.
Your nervous system does too.

But clutter keeps everything feelingโ€ฆ unfinished.

Every unfinished task = another tiny signal of stress.

Another open tab your nervous system never really gets to close.

Which is why clearing one small space can feel surprisingly calming.

Your brain registers completion.

Your body gets the message that something has been handled.

That little sigh of relief?

Thatโ€™s your nervous system settling.

This is exactly what Lighten Up is designed to do.

One small reset a day.
Just 15 minutes.

Because sometimes calming your nervous system starts with clearing a drawer.

We start 23 March.
