Su***de Prevention Awareness Month in the UK takes place throughout September 2025.
The central event during this month is World Su***de Prevention Day, observed annually on September 10th. This year’s theme is 'Changing the Narrative on Su***de'.
If you think someone might be suicidal, take action, interrupt their thoughts and show them you care. The Samaritans surveyed people with lived experience of su***de and the majority told us that their suicidal thoughts had been interrupted.
• 60% said their suicidal thoughts had been interrupted by someone close to them, like a friend or family member.
• 14% said their suicidal thoughts had been interrupted by a stranger or someone they didn’t know.

Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK or Ireland dies by su***de and 1 in 4 of us has had suicidal thoughts.

🎉 Huge shoutout to Maggie — officially two years deep into her paediatric nursing journey and still smashing it! 👩‍⚕️💪 Between lectures and late-night study sessions, she’s been rocking her support worker role at SIL like a total boss.
