Mindfulness has been used for thousands of years to promote wellbeing. It is now widely recognised as being a powerful tool that can help anyone enhance their appreciation of life, manage stress, anxiety, low moods and even improve performance in activities and tasks. It is now used in a wide variety of settings, such as healthcare, business, education, and sport. There is also strong and growing evidence that it causes a range of positive changes to the brain.

Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week course in how to use mindfulness in daily life. It is used widely around the world now for the general public and in workplace settings and is appropriate for anyone wishing to live life more fully.

Nick teachers the 8- week MBSR course at the Subud centre on Friday mornings 11am to 1.10 pm three times per year. The Winter term starts in January, the Spring term starts in April, and the Autumn term starts in September or October.

Each course is preceded by a Free Introductory session (11am - 12pm) which is generally held one week before the course starts.

Meditation Mindfulness Lewes

8-week Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Courses with Teresa Gane
Mindfulness is a way of being in the present moment that involves bringing a compassionate awareness to how we actually are at any given time. This gives us an opportunity to be open to our experiences, notice how we relate to them and gives us a choice in how we deal with them.
The training involves practising different meditations alongside movement and CBT exercises, with the aim of mindfulness becoming part of everyday life. The course is approved by NICE as an effective treatment for the prevention of relapse into low mood. Research has shown that practising mindfulness can also help with a range of physical and emotional difficulties including stress, anxiety and pain, as well as enhancing general wellbeing.
Teresa has been teaching mindfulness since training with the Centre for Mindfulness, Bangor University, in 2008 and is supervised via the Mindfulness Network CIC. She is a member of Grow Mindfulness CIC, Brighton.

There are two courses per term, taking place in the Lower Hall:

Spring course:

This class honours what a special time pregnancy is. We share experience, calm the mind and body through meditation, and work on postures and breathing techniques that will prepare you for your birth and help you sleep. The class also helps to ease tension in the shoulders/back, and keep the body flexible and supple in a safe way. We close with a calming relaxation, Yoga Nidra or HypnoBirthing inspired script (I am also a HypnoBirthing practitioner) to aid your full relaxation.
Beginners to yoga are welcome. It’s advisable to begin classes after 13 weeks of pregnancy.

This is a very friendly class of people who are all over 50, some are well into their 70s and 80s. Some have recently started yoga and some have been practising for a very long time!

Everyone is keen to maintain - or improve - their health, flexibility, strength and balance. We use a combination of gentle postures, breath work and short meditative practices which are all adaptable when necessary. That way everyone can work at their own pace and according to their own needs and aims. And no one need think 'I can't do yoga!'

Since I discovered the wonderful teachings of Vanda Scaravelli I have been passionate about sharing the liberating and empowering practise of Yoga. My teacher Diane Long is an exquisite example of Vanda’s teachings in action, and watching her practise, or indeed teach, has given me insights into the ancient principles that Yoga is truly about being “in the present moment”.
Classes are an opportunity for us to explore classical asanas in a lighthearted way, finding our own “un-doing” and giving each person the opportunity to find their own experience of the postures.
