Monday moment…

Ever had one of those mornings where you’re searching everywhere for something… and then find it in the most random place?

Today’s discovery: the Post-it notes I was looking for yesterday… stuck in the fridge. On the yoghurts. 🤦‍♀️

When life feels busy, overwhelming, or our minds are juggling too many things, little moments like this happen. Our brains are trying to keep up with everything.

It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes we’re not “losing it” we’re just carrying a lot.

Be kind to your mind today. Slow down where you can. Breathe. One thing at a time.

For I’m sharing a few that have stayed with me through different stages of life:

🌳 Childhood favourite: The Faraway Tree, Enid Blyton. pure imagination and adventure. I loved the thought of escaping to magical lands
Teen years: Sweet Valley High. Francine Pascal .friendship, drama, and growing up. How much did I wish my school experience was like that?
Counselling read: Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown, beautiful guide to understanding our emotions and the language we use for them. Just beautiful
A truly beautiful book: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig a gentle reminder about regret, possibility, and being human. This one has really impacted me. I’ve returned to it many times.
Adult favourite: Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. a powerful story about loneliness, connection, and healing. I just love her!
Current read: I Am a Cat — seeing the world from a very different perspective. No surprise there! I love a cat book!

Books help us explore feelings, build empathy, and sometimes understand parts of ourselves we didn’t have words for yet.

What books have stayed with you through the years? Let me know in the comments. I’d love your recommendations!

How could we not be?

We are not robots…

We cannot help but be impacted by this work over time.

Yes, it helps to use empathy - this is not our story, it did not happen to us…

But we can still feel sad that it happened to another human.

A human who is being brave enough to tell us how it felt for them.

And remember, we are still always healing ourselves…

That in itself can impact us over time.

Being impacted by the work doesn’t make you a ‘bad’ therapist.

It makes you a compassionate human.

So yes, I have been impacted by the work despite my training, my supervision, my own therapy and….

I would be worried if I hadn’t been.

I failed my A-levels.
Didn’t get into university.
Thought I’d ruined my chances.

Today I’m officially accredited with the BACP.

My path wasn’t straight.

I joined the RAF.
I went back into education later in life.
I did the training. The placements. The personal therapy. The self-doubt. The growth.

And somehow… I ended up exactly where I was meant to be.

If you feel behind in life; you’re not.
If your journey looks different; that might be your strength.

There is no one timeline.

Sometimes the long way round builds the depth and empathy this work really needs. ❤️

I was painting this pot and accidentally dropped my brush right into it.
It smudged. It streaked. It wasn’t what I planned.

I asked for help.

The messy bit was gently rubbed out and reworked.

It didn’t need throwing away.
It didn’t need starting again.
It just needed support.

Healing is like that.

Asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
It means you’re still creating something beautiful.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

I thought I was bad at reversing… turns out I just needed a different approach.

For weeks I struggled reversing into my driveway.
Same stress. Same frustration. Same tight angle.

Then I tried something different.
I drove a little further up the road first.

And suddenly… it worked.

Sometimes it’s not that you can’t.
It’s that you’re approaching it from the same stuck position.

In therapy, we don’t just try harder.
We try differently.

Sometimes annoying moments happen In the day, don’t let write off your whole day. My day was also made up of some lovely moments, gym with friends, pottery painting and bacon sarnies with friends and lots of human connection!

Changing broadband shouldn’t make you feel incompetent… but it often does.

When systems are confusing and out of your control, your nervous system goes into threat mode — and shame creeps in.

This isn’t a personal failure. It’s a human response to stress.

You’re not bad at life because the Wi-Fi won’t connect.

Love my cheeky birthday gift! Healing isn’t a glow-up.
It’s a grow-up 🌱

It’s messy.
It’s slow.
Sometimes you wonder if anything is happening at all.

But with the right support, safety, change does come.

Counselling isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about letting what’s already there grow 💚
