Becoming One With Your Gongs, Drums & Instrumentsā€¦ā€

This is something that’s hard to explain…
but if you know, you know.

There comes a point in this work
where you’re no longer just playing instruments…

You’re working with them
You’re listening to them
You’re in relationship with them

āø»

Because a gong isn’t just metal.
A drum isn’t just skin and wood.

They carry presence… tone… energy… history.

And when you spend enough time with them,
something shifts.

āø»

You stop performing… and start responding.

You feel when to strike…
When to soften…
When to pause…

Not from the mind —
but from awareness.

And this is why no sound bath is ever the same.

You can’t script it.
You can’t repeat it exactly.

Because the gongs…
The drums…

šŸ‘‰ They know what’s needed in that moment
šŸ‘‰ They respond to the space, the people, the energy

āø»

This is where real sound work begins.

Not in technique.
Not in how many instruments you own.

But in the moment where:

šŸ‘‰ The room goes quiet inside you
šŸ‘‰ You become fully present
šŸ‘‰ And the sound starts to move through you, not from you

āø»

With the drum, it’s rhythm and connection to the earth.
With the gong, it’s depth, expansion, and movement.

Each one teaches you something different.

āø»

And over time…

You don’t just create sound.

You hold space with it.

āø»

I’ve been walking this path for over 20 years,
and I’m still learning from the instruments every time I sit with them.

Because this work isn’t about control…

It’s about connection.

āø»

If you’ve ever felt that moment
where everything just flows…

That’s not practice.

That’s alignment.

Over the last few years, sound baths have gone from something quietly practiced… to something you now see everywhere.

Yoga studios, village halls, even pop-up events in places that have never held space for this kind of work before.

And while it’s beautiful to see sound healing becoming more accessible… there’s also something we need to talk about honestly.

Because not all sound baths are created with the same depth, training, or intention.

My first sound bath was over 20 years ago.
Back then, it wasn’t a trend. It was a practice. A discipline. A path you stepped into with respect.

What I’m seeing now is a mix of powerful work… and unfortunately, some sessions that miss the mark completely.

So here are 7 red flags to watch for when choosing a sound bath:

āø»

1. No grounding or opening
If the session starts with instruments straight away, with no settling, breathwork, or intention setting… that’s a red flag.
Sound work should prepare the nervous system, not shock it.

āø»

2. It’s all about the instruments, not the energy
Gongs and bowls look impressive—but they’re just tools.
If the focus is on ā€œlook what I’ve gotā€ rather than how the space feels… something’s off.

āø»

3. No awareness of volume or sensitivity
Sound should be felt, not endured.
If it’s painfully loud, chaotic, or overwhelming with no variation… it can actually dysregulate people.

āø»

4. No safety guidance
A proper facilitator will always mention things like:
– sound sensitivity
– epilepsy considerations
– pregnancy
– emotional release

If none of that is covered… they’re not holding the space responsibly.

āø»

5. The facilitator doesn’t hold the room
You can feel this instantly.
If people are chatting, restless, or the energy feels scattered… the space isn’t being held properly.

āø»

6. No integration at the end
If the session just ends and everyone is sent on their way… something important is missing.
Integration is where the healing lands.

āø»

7. You leave feeling worse (and not in a good way)
Yes, emotions can come up—that’s normal.
But if you leave feeling anxious, drained, or unsettled with no support or explanation… that’s not the goal.

āø»

Sound baths, when done properly, are incredibly powerful.

They can reset the nervous system, shift emotional blocks, and reconnect you back to yourself in a deep way.

But like anything that becomes popular… quality varies.

So choose carefully.
Trust how you feel.
And don’t be afraid to ask questions.

This work deserves respect.

Be Careful Who You Trust With ā€œHealingā€ Today

We’re living in a time where everything is being called healing…

Quick certifications.
Weekend practitioners.
People offering to ā€œfixā€ you after a short course.

And the truth is — not all of it is real.

āø»

In traditional paths, healing wasn’t something you just learned…
šŸ‘‰ It was something you lived, earned, and embodied over time.

It came through:
• Experience
• Challenge
• Deep personal work
• And a genuine connection to spirit and nature

Not a certificate printed after a few hours online.

āø»

āš ļø The danger today is this:

People are putting their trust, their energy, and their vulnerability into hands that may not be ready to hold it.

And that can leave you:
• Disappointed
• Confused
• Still searching
• Or even more out of balance than before

āø»

Real healing isn’t:
• Instant
• Flashy
• Or something done to you

šŸ‘‰ It’s something you are guided back into within yourself

āø»

So take your time.

Feel into the person you’re working with.
Ask questions.
Trust your instincts.

Because the right practitioner won’t try to impress you…

šŸ‘‰ They’ll help you reconnect to your own strength.

āø»

At Shaman’s Rest, the focus is simple:
🌿 Grounded work
🌿 Real experience
🌿 No shortcuts

Because this path deserves respect.

A Moment of Awareness – Peak District This Morning 🐦

This morning in the heart of the Peak District, I had one of those rare, quiet encounters that stops you in your tracks.

At an old village well in Hartington, a jackdaw came into view…

Not just passing through — but moving with intention.

It started on the ground…
Stepped up level by level…
Then reached the very top of the structure…
And paused.

Still. Observing.

Those pale grey eyes — calm, aware, present.

And it didn’t happen once… it repeated the same pattern three times.

āø»

Standing there, you couldn’t help but notice the deeper pattern around it:

* A solid structure at the centre
* A circle of space for people to gather
* Water present… but not flowing
* And life quietly growing through the cracks

āø»

It was a simple but powerful reminder:

šŸ‘‰ Build on what you already have
šŸ‘‰ Move step by step — not all at once
šŸ‘‰ Don’t wait for perfect conditions
šŸ‘‰ Growth often starts in the smallest spaces

āø»

Sometimes it’s not about searching for meaning…
It’s about being still enough to see what’s already there.

āø»

The Peak District has a way of doing that.

Have you ever had a moment like this?

🌿 SEEKING A PERMANENT SOUND BATH LOCATION – PEAK DISTRICT 🌿

We are currently looking for a beautiful, peaceful, and permanent base for our Shamanic Sound Baths in the Peak District.

Ideally, we’re looking for:
✨ A converted barn, farm space, studio, or retreat venue
✨ Quiet, natural surroundings (countryside / woodland / farmland)
✨ Enough space for small group sessions (8–20 people)
✨ Option to leave instruments set up (gongs, drums, sound equipment)
✨ Evening and weekend access

Our work is gentle, respectful, and deeply aligned with nature — creating calming, immersive experiences through sound, vibration, and stillness.

This could be perfect for:
🌿 Farm diversification
🌿 Retreat venues looking to expand their offering
🌿 Landowners with unused barns or studio spaces
🌿 Wellness/yoga spaces wanting regular bookings

We already run established sessions and are looking to create a long-term home in the Peak District šŸŒ„

If you have a space — or know someone who does — we’d love to hear from you.

Opportunity to Help Grow a Wellbeing Brand (Flexible / Commission-Based) ✨

I’m looking for the right person to help grow Shaman’s Rest and Dreamcatcher Academy — a wellbeing brand offering sound baths, drumming circles, and accredited courses across Lichfield, surrounding areas, and the Peak District.

This isn’t a standard job — it’s a flexible, commission-based role for someone who enjoys marketing, social media, and connecting with people.

The role involves:

* Posting and promoting events on Facebook
* Responding to messages and enquiries
* Helping fill sound bath sessions, group bookings, and courses

Ideal if you:

* Are confident using Facebook and social media
* Enjoy talking to people and building interest
* Like the idea of being part of something growing
* Have an interest in wellbeing (not essential)

šŸ’° Earnings are based on a percentage of bookings generated — so the more you bring in, the more you earn.

This could suit someone looking for:

* Flexible work alongside something else
* Experience growing a real business
* A role that can develop over time
