This is so true! Being super bendy does not make you ‘good’ at yoga and being super unbendy does not mean you’re ‘bad’ at it! Do the right yoga for you and your body! 🥰🧘‍♀️

There's really no correlation between your capacity to do challenging ("advanced") poses and how your body feels.
There are plenty of people who can do hard asanas - but many of them are also in pain. And there are plenty of people who can't do difficult poses but are not in pain.
After years of dysfunctional practice, many people quit because of pain and decide that yoga is not for them.
Then they have to spend years rehabbing from the damage.
Difficult poses are more like performance art, if you can do them without any pain, good for you - but it's actually rare.
While poses like this one are used to suggest that the practitioner is advanced, in good shape, has a strong mind, and feels great, that's not always the case.
There's a dark side.
There are strong correlations between hypermobile joints and pain.
So many practitioners have hurt themselves from continuing to practice despite the body's strong messages of pain.
This may be because westerners have bought into the idea that hard poses are the goal. But this is inaccurate.
Yoga is not an external practice where the form is the goal. and the harder the form the better.
Yoga is a highly internal practice.
Being able to do hard asanas does not mean you are an advanced practitioner...but knowing when you shouldn't do them, and being able to find asanas that make your body feel stable, strong, and healthy, that help you balance your mind, and that help you develop resilience in your nervous system - those are the signs of a truly advanced practice.

We have some amazing news!

As our Charlie was in year 11 and getting ready for his exams, we are fully aware of the immensity of the next few months for year 11’s.
We know this time of year can be stressful for young people and parents alike so we would like to help.

Charlie’s Wings are offering sessions to help with the stresses of exams to year 11 students. Space is limited so this will be on a first come first served basis.
Booking is essential.

We have 3 FREE sessions coming up

Tuesday 26th April
Tuesday 3rd May
Tuesday 10th May
5:30pm

These will be held at Midlands Yoga Studio
in Glascote (1b East View B77 2BQ)


The 60 minute sessions will coach you with some easy self-care tips and takeaway ideas that could be used before during and after exams. This would include a small amount of stretches that would be specifically to help with focus, stress release, tension release, and sleep . We will share simple breathing techniques that can even be used outside the exam hall or in the exam itself with no one noticing. Again depending on your need these may be to calm and reduce anxiety, or even to boost the brain and get the cogs turning for more confidence in the exam itself. We will share a little insight into the science behind the breathing and how it is super beneficial.

Each week will have a guided visualisation/meditation to give you the opportunity to fully relax and re-connect with your own calm. It is also a perfect opportunity to practice learning some self discipline of the body and mind so you can tap into your wisdom during actual exams.”

A little bit about the teacher….
Lisa Petrovic is a fully qualified 200hr Yoga Teacher who has also specialised in an additional 100hrs Teen Yoga Training. Lisa has practiced yoga for over 15 years, and has found yoga to be so beneficial to mind body and soul that she left a career in sales and marketing to re-train as a yoga teacher. Lisa is dedicated to sharing her love of yoga and is passionate about equipping young people with the tools to survive modern day society.”
Lisa is also fully DBS checked
