🌳Reconnecting with the Free Child ✨

In transactional analysis we talk about the Free Child ego state, the part of us that’s playful, curious, spontaneous and alive. It’s the energy that makes us want to explore, to create, to laugh for no reason at all. ☺

🔕Somewhere along the way, many of us quieten that part. We grow cautious, responsible, busy. But our Free Child never disappears; it just waits for an invitation back.

Today, for me, that looked like climbing a tree, no agenda, no outcome, just fun. These small, light-hearted moments aren’t frivolous; they’re powerful. They help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and bring us back to joy. 😁

🧐Therapy often invites clients to reconnect with this side of themselves. Because healing isn’t only about understanding the pain, it’s also about rediscovering the parts of you that know how to play. 💜

What does your Free Child want to do today? 🌱

🕯️ Wave of Light 💜

Tonight, candles will flicker in windows across the world, tiny flames carrying enormous love.

💫Each light honours a life that ended too soon, a heartbeat that’s still felt in every breath, a story that will always matter.

Grief is not something to “get over.” It weaves itself into us, a thread of love that remains, even in its ache. And if tonight you find the weight of that love heavy to hold, know this: it’s okay.

It’s okay to cry.
It’s okay to be angry.
It’s okay to simply sit in the quiet.

There is no “right” way to remember.
Only your way.🫶

So, light a candle if you wish. Whisper a name into the night. Or just breathe, gently, knowing that your love, your memory, your grief, all of it is valid.

And above all, be gentle with yourself this evening. 🌙

🧠✨ Myth-Busting OCD ✨🧠

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. Let’s set the record straight 👇

🚫 Myth 1: OCD is just about being neat and tidy. (this one is my personal pet peeve, legit makes my insides crawl when I hear this!)
✅ Fact: OCD isn’t a personality trait, it’s a mental health condition. It involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or rituals (compulsions) done to reduce anxiety.

🚫 Myth 2: Everyone is “a little bit OCD.” 🤦‍♀️
✅ Fact: Being organised or liking things clean is not the same as OCD. OCD is distressing, time consuming, and can significantly affect daily life!

🚫 Myth 3: People with OCD can just stop their rituals if they try harder.
✅ Fact: Compulsions are not habits. They’re driven by intense anxiety and fear. Without treatment and support, stopping them can feel impossible.

🚫 Myth 4: OCD is rare.
✅ Fact: Around 1.2% of people in the UK live with OCD, that’s roughly 750,000 people. You are not alone.

🫶 OCD is not a joke, a quirk, or a preference. It’s a serious condition, but with the right support, recovery is possible.

🌍💜 World Mental Health Day 💜🌍

💫Today is a reminder that everyone has mental health. Just like physical health, it’s something we all carry with us every day, and it deserves the same care and compassion.

It’s also important to remember that while everyone has mental health, many people also live with mental illness, and that is different. Both matter. Both deserve support, understanding, and kindness. 🌱

Taking care of your mental health doesn’t have to mean grand gestures, it can be as simple as resting when you need to, reaching out to talk, or allowing yourself to feel instead of pushing it down.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s commit to breaking the silence, ending the stigma, and reminding each other:
💬 Asking for help is strength, not weakness.
💬 You are not alone in this.
💬 Healing is possible.

Your mental health matters. You matter. 💜

If you do need help and support, please do get in touch!

🧠 Window of Tolerance, through a Neurodivergent Lens!

The window of tolerance describes the zone where we feel regulated enough to function, cope, and connect. When we’re inside our window, things feel manageable. 🥰

When we slip outside, we may go into:

😖Hyperarousal (fight/flight): anxious, overwhelmed, restless.

😪Hypoarousal (freeze/shutdown): numb, disconnected, exhausted.

For many neurodivergent people, that window can be narrower or different. Things like sensory input, social demands, executive functioning challenges, or masking can push us out of our window more quickly than those who are neurotypical.

✨ What this means:

You are not “too sensitive” or “overreacting.”
Your nervous system might get overwhelmed faster.
That doesn’t mean you’re broken, it means your needs matter.

💡 Ways to support your window as an ND person:

Notice early signals (body tension, zoning out, racing thoughts).
Use grounding tools that actually work for you (stimming, headphones, movement, silence).
Respect recovery time, rest is not optional, it’s essential.

💫Your window doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Learning what helps you stay within it (or come back when you’ve slipped out) is a powerful act of self-understanding.

✨ Big news ✨

I’m so proud to share that I’ve finally received my certificate for my Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents 🌿💛

Working with young people has always been such an important part of my practice. This qualification means I can now offer even more specialised support, creating safe, compassionate spaces for children and adolescents to explore their feelings, build resilience, and find their voice. ✨

For me, this isn’t just a piece of paper, it’s a promise. A promise to meet every child where they are, to listen deeply, and to walk alongside them as they navigate life’s challenges.

Here’s to the next chapter ✨

You owe yourself permission 💜

🌈 Healing Includes Permission
You don’t have to earn your food.
You don’t need to justify your hunger.
You are allowed to eat: simply because you’re human!

✨ Healing includes permission.
Not restriction.
Not rules.
Not shame dressed up as “discipline.”

🫶 It’s permission to eat.
To nourish.
To rest.
To want.

🥖 It’s permission to include the foods you were taught to fear.
Carbs, bread, pasta, puddings, buttered toast.
Not because you’re “cheating” but because they are food!
They are allowed. (And bloody delicious)

🌸 It’s permission to rebuild your relationship with food, gently.
To take it one bite at a time.
To remember that softness is strength, and that you are worthy of nourishment, in every sense.

You don’t have to fight food forever.
Healing gives you permission to come home to it again.

🌍 World Su***de Prevention Day 💜

Today, we pause to honour lives lost, lives touched by su***de, and the ongoing need for compassion and connection.

As an eating disorder counsellor, I cannot ignore the reality:
✨ Research shows that around 1 in 5 people with eating disorders will attempt su***de (Arcelus et al., 2011). Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, with su***de a heart breaking part of that statistic.

Behind every number is a person: someone’s child, partner, friend. Someone who needed to be heard, held, and helped.

💬 If you are struggling:
You are not a burden.
You are not alone.
Your story is not over.

💜Recovery is possible.
💜Support is real.
💜And your life matters.

📞 If today feels heavy, please reach out:

Samaritans: call 116 123 (free, 24/7)

Text "SHOUT" to 85258 for confidential text support

Or contact your GP or local crisis team for urgent help

Together, we can break the silence, reduce the stigma, and create a world where no one feels they must carry this alone. 🌿✨

🎒 Back to School, With Gentle Reminders 🌿

For many, a new school term brings excitement. But if you’re living with an eating disorder, “back to school” can also bring pressure, change, and fear.

New routines. Different meal times. Busy corridors. The watchful eyes of others. It can feel overwhelming, and you are not alone in that. 💜

From my heart to yours, a few gentle reminders:
✨ You are more than your grades, your uniform, or your lunchbox.
✨ Food is not something to earn, it is something your body deserves.
✨ It’s okay if this season feels hard, it does not mean you are failing.
✨ Reaching out for support is strength, not weakness.

School is part of your journey, but it is not the whole of you. You are a whole person, with courage, creativity, and so much more than an eating disorder could ever take away. 🌸

If you are struggling, please remember: you don’t have to do this alone. There is support, and there is hope. Always.

Please do get in touch if you would like some support.💜

🧠 ADHD & Binge Eating: It's not about willpower 💬
If you’re navigating both ADHD and binge eating, please know:
It’s not a lack of discipline. It’s not about being "out of control."
It’s your nervous system doing its best to cope.

💥 ADHD can impact:

Impulse control

Interoception (knowing when you’re hungry or full)

Emotional regulation

Delayed gratification

📢Combine that with sensory seeking, dopamine dips, and chronic overwhelm and food can quickly become a tool for soothing, stimulation, or simply feeling something.

🍽️ Binge eating in ADHD isn’t just about hunger.
It can be about needing structure, needing stimulation, needing comfort, or all three at once.

✨ Be gentle with yourself.
Recovery here doesn’t look like willpower.
It looks like understanding your brain, building supportive routines, and meeting your needs before they scream.

You’re not broken. You’re doing your best in a world that wasn’t built for your brain. And there’s help, hope, and healing available, without shame. 🫶

📣Being true to yourself might mean being misunderstood, but self-betrayal is a silence that screams 🫶

🌈You were never meant to be a watered-down version of yourself.
Not quieter so others feel louder.
Not softer so others stay comfortable.
Not less, just to keep the peace.

🌹Every time you twist yourself to please someone else,
you chip away at your wholeness.
You silence truths that deserve to be heard.
You abandon the parts of you that were never wrong to begin with.

✨ Being authentic isn’t always easy.
but self-betrayal costs far more than being misunderstood.

You deserve to take up space,
to speak your truth,
to be all of who you are
without apology.

Don’t lose yourself trying to be loved.
Real love never asks you to disappear.

(and yes...... I did fall in)

✨ Exciting news! ✨

I’ve recently gained a new qualification in Creative Interventions, a therapeutic approach that uses art, movement, imagery, and other creative tools to help you explore what words sometimes can’t reach.

🎶Creativity speaks the language of the unconscious mind.

It allows hidden thoughts, feelings, and memories to surface in gentle, unexpected ways. Sometimes, our deepest truths don’t come out in conversation, they appear in colour, shape, metaphor, or story. 🎨

For those navigating eating disorders, trauma, or any big life challenges, creative interventions can:
🎨 Provide a safe distance from overwhelming feelings.
🖌 Help uncover and express emotions that feel “stuck.”
📖 Build self-awareness and self-compassion through symbolism and metaphor.
💡 Access new perspectives by bypassing the critical, overthinking mind.

You don’t need to consider yourself “artistic” it’s not about creating a masterpiece, it’s about creating meaning!

Creativity isn’t just a tool in therapy, it’s a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, a way to connect with parts of yourself you might have forgotten, silenced, or never met before.💜
