ore! Steven, Owner & Sports Therapist at SR Sports Therapy, runs a clinic at Active Arena Lincoln, and has experience dealing with athletes of a number of backgrounds, from extensive experience in a variety of settings including professional football, working with professional boxers and MMA athletes, to recreational golfers, amateur runners, rugby players and the general public! Your injury may not be sports related, but we can work with most musculoskeletal issues including work-related, muscular and joint aches and pains. Steven holds over 9 years post-graduate experience and has performed pitch-side first aid care for clubs for 8+ seasons! We do things differently, and offer a service that allows access to supervised rehabilitation three times a week (Open Gym Rehabilitation Membership), and semi-remote management of your rehabilitation (Semi-Remote Rehabilitation Programme). Both these services offer extensive value for money - more details can be found on our website of these services. Steven is an experienced Sports Therapist and currently works as a Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Therapy at the University of Lincoln when not in the clinic. He graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a degree in BSc Sports Therapy and furthered his knowledge by finishing a MSc in Sport & Exercise Medicine in 2018. As a member of the Society of Sports Therapists, Steven has also held roles as an FA medical tutor across 4 different counties, lecturer practitioner at the University of Central Lancashire, and associate lecturing roles. An avid football fan, Steven tried many sports when he was a bit younger including windsurfing, and now enjoys playing tug or being walked by his German Shepherd named Thor - if you get to know more about Thor, you’ll know why he walks Steven! 🚨 A new pricing structure will be implemented from 1st February 2025 🚨

After thinking long and hard, we are adjusting our pricing from the 1st February 2025 to 1) better reflect the service being offered and the access we provide to a wide array of training techniques and profiling/objective testing; 2) better align to pricing seen elsewhere - for example, other providers may have previously been seen as a similar cost, but likely only provided 30 minutes of time compared to our 45-minute appointment slots… There will still be 10% discount applied to those under 18, over 65, those in the armed forces, and students 🙋🏻‍♂️

This change in pricing will affect all services offered, however there is still great value for money seen in some of the higher priced services, with big savings seen with the semi-remote rehabilitation and open gym rehabilitation options when considering the ‘per-session cost’ and the added support your receive with these options! Book in before the 1st February, and pay the current prices - so get in fast 🏃🏻‍♂️💨💨💨🔥

With experience in professional and semi professional football, alongside clinical work which has included professional combat sport athletes, professional footballers, runners, gym-goers and more, we can work with you to develop the necessary physical qualities whilst managing the injury back to return to sport. With three ways of working with us, from traditional appointment-by-appointment, to semi-remote rehabilitation blending in-person and online, and finally our more intensive open-gym rehabilitation allowing 3 sessions in person per week, we have something to suit everyone’s needs.

Why would you want to some of your rehabilitation sessions to be alongside another patient? 🤔

As part of our open gym rehabilitation sessions you have the opportunity to complete your rehab session alongside another patient, making up a 2:1 patient-to-therapist ratio. Some people may be wondering why on Earth you would want to pay to do your session alongside another patient… well there’s actually quite a few benefits (see post) and it can easily be implemented, especially if you complete your reps or work in the rest period of the other patient, meaning you don’t miss out on those coaching cues and tips that you’d normally get from us!

From the social interaction, to sharing your wins and worries with someone else, to having a bit of competition back to your sessions, and feeling apart of something again, I believe this approach can bring some great things to your rehab journey!

How can monitoring speed, help you to develop your strength 🤯

Velocity Based Training, commonly abbreviated to VBT, is a method of training where you record and monitor bar speed throughout a lift or action - this can, as a result of measuring bar speed, enable you to then determine the type of physical quality being worked based on the speed. Not only that, but if we want to work a particular physical quality, we can track when to stop a set based on when we stop performing the lift within a set threshold of speeds! 🔥

Each exercise type can often be seen to have a different speed associated to a 1-Repetition Maximum attempt, and therefore the speeds set to work different physical qualities could vary slightly!

Why do we like using VBT when appropriate in patient rehab sessions… well using our VBT unit, we can track speed, we can estimate your 1RM during sessions to minimise the need for designated testing sessions, we can monitor for fatigue in sets and sessions, as well as set up leaderboards to allow some competition between patients! The second image is an example of a deadlift estimated 1RM from an incremental load test, where 4 different weights were lifted, the speed recorded and the maximum load estimated from these speeds - these loss ideally need to be between 50-90% of your maximum to try to make the estimate as accurate as possible.

Want to know how this might be implemented into your rehabilitation… drop us a message for a chat 🙋🏻‍♂️
