Last week, I stood beside The Queen Bee Dani and The Big Festoon team again, as part of Flight Squad, setting up rooms, carrying boxes, holding space, welcoming delegates, and cheering on every moment of magic that unfolded.
People often ask me, “Why do you give your time like that?”
And the answer is simple:
Because I believe in what we’re building...
Dani creates spaces where people are not just told they belong, they feel it.
Where difference is not tolerated, it is celebrated.
Where voices are not invited as an afterthought, they are centred.
Where no one is too much, and no one is not enough.
And I feel that in my bones.
I’ve known Dani since 2017.
I’ve seen the evolution, the resilience, the fire, the times she chose courage when comfort would have been easier.
I’ve been mentored by her.
I’ve stood and spoke on her stage.
I’ve watched her build not just events, but movement-spaces, rooms where people get to take up space they were once told they didn’t deserve. I have witnessed Young individuals celebrated and encouraged, given opportunities that might not have ever come their way., thrive and take up space.
So yes, I show up.
I move chairs.
I carry equipment.
I wipe tears and cheer loudly and hold humans through big moments.
Not because I am “helping out”
but because I am part of something I believe is sacred, So My 3 days out of my own business the early starts and late nights are worth every moment.
And here’s why
While Dani helps individuals use and find their voice
I help them come home to their bodies.
To embrace them.
To feel safe in them.
To experience pleasure, softness, joy, aliveness and enoughness in their skin — not once they’ve earned it.
AND I do this work because I once watched my three year old daughter look at her reflection and repeat the same self-criticism she’d learned from me.
I felt the generational wound in real time.
And I swore to break it.
We all deserve to feel safe, seen and comfortable in our bodies, Dani and I in very different ways help people remember... You were never meant to shrink, Your body, shape, size, skin colour, gender, culture was never the problem. The world we live in is... You deserve to be seen, not as an afterthought, but because you belong... So I STAND beside anyone who stands for this work. Those who are not afraid to get uncomfortable in the name of change... We are not performing empowerment, we are embodying it. And if you've been craving a space like this, a space where your softness, your voice, your identity, your joy, your curves, your neurodivergence, your culture, your difference, your edges are welcome. Know there are rooms out there for you... This December alongside Sepsis research Feat I m hosting All That Glitters - A Night To shine Charity ball, a space built for those ready to be seen, fully, joyfully, unapologetically. If you love the big festoon and if you are tired of trying to fit into unattainable boxes, the ballroom is waiting, and there is a seat for you...
