Kelly joined Reshape back in the summer of 2025 with a clear goal: lower her BMI, feel confident in her clothes, and finally create a lifestyle that worked for her — not against her.

Unsexy habits I do that have helped me lose 10kg on my pp fat loss journey

1. Eat the same breakfast every single day

I wake up and dont need to think, I know this meal keeps me full, has enough protein and it taste lovely.

2. Each evening I get my clothes and my kids clothes out ready the night before to make the morning rush bit easier

3. Plan evening dinners before doing the food shop, so we only buy what we need and dont waste food

4. I go to bed after my daughter bedtime is done. To help get more sleep while we co sleep my 7month old who I’m still breastfeeding. When I dont get enough sleep, my hunger increases even more so I know I need to get in as soon as I can so make the next day easier

5. I dont drink unless its a special occasion, I dont think I need to explain this but being hunger just reduces how productive I am working and as a mum so right now it just doesn’t agree with who I want to be.

6. I carry a 2litre water bottle with me everywhere, yes its heavy and a pain but staying hydrated is a must when BF and also when on a weight loss journey. Plus your skin looks so much better when you are hydrated mums, its a free hack you should be making sure you get 2-4 litres a day if not more if your breastfeeding

7. My lunches are very boring and usually a chicken or tuna wrap or egg on toast

8. I very rarely eat out of get a takeaway. If we do again it’s usually a birthday or a treat. At the moment we are saving every penny as we are looking to buy our forever home this year so this is something we limit, as can very easily add up but this does mean that most of my meals are cooked by me or a family member so its a lot easier to track and be accurate

9. I like being busy, my own worst enemy here but being busy when you are dieting can be really helpful because you dont just sit around waiting to eat or thinking of your next meal, so most of my day is always planned with scheduled meals and snack times

4 things I do every Sunday to make the working week a little easier

First, do yourself a favour and make sure your following me & save this if you’re struggling to lose weight while breastfeeding, so you can check back

Losing weight while breastfeeding is so frustrating, one day you’ve drop 1kg and the next your back up 2kg the struggle is real, trust me I know, im on my 2nd and currently 7 months into BF

But there are some real reasons behind why it can feel impossible, your body is actively trying to protect milk production and your baby’s nutrition

1. Your body holds onto fat stores on purpose
�During pregnancy, your body stores extra fat specifically to fuel breastfeeding. Hormones like prolactin (which drives milk production) also encourage your body to hang onto those reserves, especially around the hips and thighs.

2. Hormones slow fat loss
�Breastfeeding affects hormones like estrogen and insulin. Lower estrogen levels can make your metabolism behave differently and sometimes slow down fat burning.

3. Increased hunger (and cravings)
�Breastfeeding burns extra calories (around 300–500 per day), but it also ramps up hunger hormones. Many people naturally eat more to compensate, which can cancel out that calorie deficit.

4. Sleep deprivation plays a big role
�Lack of sleep (very common with a newborn) increases cortisol and disrupts hunger hormones like leptin and ghrelin. This can lead to:
- stronger cravings (especially for sugar and carbs)
- slower metabolism
- more fat storage

5. Your body favours milk over weight loss
�If you cut calories too aggressively, your body may resist weight loss to maintain a stable milk supply. In some cases, milk production can even drop.

Your body isn’t “failing”—it’s doing exactly what it’s designed to do: support your baby first.
