Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD is cyclical, hormone-based condition with symptoms arising during the premenstrual, or luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
It affects 5.5% of women/AFAB individuals of childbearing age. Some research suggest that this number is up to 8%.
It is not your regular PMS. PMDD symptoms can be extremely debilitating. PMDD can cause severe emotional, professional, and personal harm to those who have it. Those with PMDD are at increased risk for su***de and suicidal behaviour.
PMDD can feel like a "half-life".
PMDD can feel like "one week of hell and three weeks of cleaning up". IAPMD - International Association for PMDD & PME
PMDD remains under-recognized and poorly understood within the medical community. More awareness and education about PMDD is needed!

Our team and community
@ The PMDD & PME Empowerment Programme
is supporting the - International Association for PMDD & PME in the wonderful work they’re doing.
We’re proud and humbled to say that as a group of almost 30 people with PMDD and PME from around the world joined our multidisciplinary online programme in the last 3 months, we were able to make a donation of $450 to the IAPMD.
It is Giving Tuesday today. Can you help?
You may have seen that IAPMD is returning for a second year with the Skip Your Coffee campaign. The idea is to donate what you would usually spend on a cup of coffee, or if you're able, cups!
As a nonprofit organization, donations are how IAPMD funds the great services they provide to those who are living with premenstrual disorders.
Of course, not everyone drinks coffee, or buys themselves a store-bought cup. And of course, not everybody can afford to make a donation.
The IAPMD wants you to know that they value each and every donation big or small, and that they also value YOU!
Use the link in the comment to donate if you wish. Thank you!

As an active member of the Red School community currently completing the Menstruality Leadership Programme, I am passionate about women´s mental health and its connection to the cyclical nature of our bodies.
Our mental health and psychological well-being cannot be viewed separately from our bodies and our cyclical nature. The experience, expression and presentation of difficulties such as anxiety, low mood and depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, phobias and specific fears, history of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), personality difficulties, substance abuse and even relationship difficulties, to name a few, are linked to the changes taking place in our body and psyche during the menstrual cycle.
I am passionate about working with women using this radical new approach to women´s mental health and psychological well-being.
Professional Background:
For the past 10 years, I have worked clinically in the National Health Service (UK) and in private services
During the last 4 years, I have worked in Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia in a clinical capacity as well as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Addis Ababa
