📣 Free tickets to your local baby event - Bumps, Babies & Beyond @ Deer Park, Livingston Sunday 5 July!

I’m really looking forward to this event organised by the lovely Fiona from Hartbeeps. Perfect for expectant parents and families with children under 3.

See post below for more details 👇

Hope to see you there! 🌼

Hartbeeps West Lothian

A NEW free event for young families in West Lothian is being held at Deer Park Golf and Country Club from 12noon - 2pm on Sunday 5 July.
'Bumps, Babies and Beyond'is designed specially for mums-to-be and families with children under the age of three.
Hosted by Fiona Duncan, owner of Hartbeeps West Lothian, the fun event aims to help families navigate pregnancy and early parenthood by introducing them to a wide range of support networks and trusted local suppliers.
It also provides a welcoming space for parents and parents-to-be to meet and share experiences.
Fiona explained: "As the mum of two little ones, I remember feeling a bit lost and not knowing where to start looking for mum groups both before and after my daughter was born.
"It was so daunting and I relied on friends with babies to point me in the right direction. Thankfully, I found Hartbeeps and fell in love with the classes.
"I wanted to create this special event as a 'one-stop-shop' for pregnant mums and families with little ones so they can find out about some of the wonderful resources in our local area.
"It's going to be a relaxed and informal couple of hours. I really hope in time it will become a valuable hub for families at the very start of their parenting journey, offering helpful advice, encouragement and reassurance."
"Bumps, Babies and Beyond" is free to attend, with registration recommended via a special Eventbrite page to secure places.

As many as 1-in-5 new mothers experiences some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMADs). These illnesses frequently go unnoticed and untreated, often with tragic and long-term consequences to both mother and child.

It’s estimated that 7 in 10 women hide or downplay their symptoms. Without understanding, support and treatment these mental illnesses could have a devastating impact on the women affected and on their partners and families.

Women of every culture, age, income level and race can develop perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Symptoms can appear any time during pregnancy and the first 12 months after childbirth. There are effective and well-researched treatment options available to help women recover.

Your mental health matters as much as your physical health. If you’re struggling, please know that you are not alone and there are people who can help you:

This story from STV News highlights the push for better allergy training in Scottish schools and it’s something that’s already been recognised elsewhere too.

In England, Benedict’s Law has been introduced following the tragic death of Benedict Blythe, aiming to improve allergy awareness and safety in schools.

Severe allergies can escalate quickly and in those moments, knowing what to look for and what to do can make all the difference.

So many people tell us they wouldn’t feel confident recognising anaphylaxis or using an auto-injector and that’s completely understandable if you’ve never been shown.

A bit of awareness goes a long way:
•Spotting the early signs
•Acting quickly
•Knowing how to use an auto-injector

It’s one of those skills you hope you never need… but would be so grateful to have.

We do run allergy awareness sessions for parents, schools and workplaces but more than anything, we just want more people to feel a bit more prepared if the situation ever arises.

NASUWT has called for training in all Scottish schools to protect children with severe allergies

Today is International Day of the Midwife, which is a chance to celebrate and recognise the hard work of all the wonderful midwives, student midwives and support workers.

Thank you to all the incredible midwives who give care to mothers and babies at their most vulnerable. We are so grateful to each and every one of you.

What was the name of your midwife?

Give them a shout out in the comments.

🚽 Potty training: Day 1 🫣

I’m starting today with my 2.5 year old. I’ve done this before, so I went in reminding myself: no pressure, just keep it light and follow their lead…

And yep… we’ve already had our first big accident 💩😂

But we also had a wee on the toilet 🙌 so I’m taking that as a win and that’s exactly how it goes in the early days.

If you’re starting too, try not to overthink it. It’s messy, it’s stop-start, and it really does click in time 😅

But also…send help 😬 🍷

🌤️ The days are getting warmer, the evenings are getting lighter, and summer is definitely in the air!

Is your little one due this month?

♉️♊️ May babies are extra special. Their birthstone is the gorgeous emerald, their flower is the delicate lily of the valley, and they’ll be either a determined Ta**us or a curious Gemini, depending on when they arrive.

Tummy time helps your little one build the strength they need for rolling, sitting, crawling, and even walking later on! It also helps prevent flat spots on the back of their head.

You can start from birth by laying your baby on your chest (just make sure you’re wide awake and not at risk of falling asleep). Gradually build it up day by day, and when they’re ready, move tummy time to the floor!

Tummy time helps strengthen your baby’s back, neck, and shoulders and gives them a whole new view of the world!

Baby not loving tummy time yet? Don’t worry that’s completely normal! Both of my children didn’t particularly like tummy time but I was gave them the opportunity when they were happily playing.
The best time to try it is when your baby is most awake, calm and content, Not straight after a feed and not when they’re tired or hungry.
