April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – Don’t Ignore the Signs!
Talking about bowel habits isn’t easy. It can feel awkward, embarrassing, or even scary. But if something doesn’t feel right, speaking to your GP could save your life.
Signs to watch out for:
🔹 Blood in your poo (especially if persistent or unexplained)
🔹 Changes in how often you go or what your poo looks like
🔹 Ongoing tummy pain, bloating, or unexplained weight loss
Most of the time, these symptoms aren’t cancer. But if they last more than three weeks, don’t wait—see your GP. They talk about these symptoms all the time.
Your GP is here to help. They can:
✅ Listen to your concerns
✅ Examine your tummy and bottom
✅ Arrange tests if needed
✅ Refer you to a specialist if necessary
👉Early detection saves lives. If you’re aged 50 to 74 in Wales, you’ll be invited for a free bowel cancer screening every two years—it’s quick, easy, and could help catch any issues early.
You don’t have to go through this alone. If something feels off, speak up.
