Today for , Ecclefechan Day Centre have shared a story about one of their trustees, Moira Shearer:
"We’re delighted to share the story of Moira Shearer, an incredible volunteer and valued trustee at Ecclefechan Day Centre.
Moira, who is 90 years old, has dedicated an incredible 30 years to volunteering at the centre. Every Wednesday, she sets tables, serves lunches, and helps with the clear-up - always bringing her warm, caring nature that makes everyone feel welcome.
Her enthusiasm never fades, she regularly calls to ask if there are extra days she can help and when staff or volunteers are on holiday she often steps in for up to three days a week without hesitation. She also runs the raffles at every event, with all the prizes stored neatly in her spare room!
Moira’s kindness and dedication extend far beyond the Day Centre. She was one of the “laundry ladies” who helped sort and clean victims’ clothing following the Pan Am 103 disaster over Lockerbie in 1988 - an act of compassion that led to lasting friendships with families in the United States. Earlier this year, she attended a Glasgow theatre production, Small Acts of Love, about the tragedy, where she met the actor who portrayed her and received a signed programme.
As a trustee, Moira is active, outspoken, and always ready to get things done. Her energy, insight and sense of humour continue to inspire everyone around her. You’d think she was 50, not 90!
Thank you, Moira, for your extraordinary service, compassion, and commitment to your community."
