👶🏽💜Supporting little ones since 2016 💜👶🏻
For nearly a decade, I’ve been dedicated to helping babies and families overcome the challenges of tongue tie. With gentle, evidence-based care, I focus on making feeding more comfortable and supporting healthy development.

When it comes to your baby, experience and compassion matter. That’s why so many families have trusted me on their journey. ✨

⁣•The area circled is what I refer to as a ‘mouth mohican’. Think of the hairstyle! ⠀

👅This little bump is what is left in the mouth when I divide a thick, tight anterior (connected to the tip of the tongue) tie. I don’t remove the frenulum during a tongue tie division; it is cut through. So this part can be visible post division but over time it absorbs into the floor of the mouth/gum ridge. ⠀
👅 Imagine that before the procedure, the height of that bump was the highest of the tongue could lift!!⠀

• This photo was taken after I performed the tongue tie division procedure which mechanically releases the tongue and enables baby to perform a wide latch.⁣

>>>> SWIPE for the shallow and ineffective latch that baby had before the procedure. ⁣Despite positioning support baby would not go deeper and always slipped to the ni**le.

🤱🏼This is how wide you’re aiming for when latching baby on! ⁣

🤱🏾 The lower lip is curled downwards and the chin is low and extended.. massaging the breast. ⁣

🤱🏻Baby may need help achieving and relaxing into this deeper latch… anchor them lower lip first onto the breast. Aim for ni**le on top of the nose or the bridge of the nose (see my Exaggerated Latch video). Then as baby hooks over the breast the ni**le is the last thing to enter baby’s mouth as it brushes under the top lip. ⁣

•This is a latch technique I run through at most appointments to encourage a deep, exaggerated latch to enhance breastfeeding. So many mum’s comment on how effective it is! ⁣

Feel free to share and save for future use 💜⁣

•Prior to a tongue tie division procedure I swaddle baby so their hands are kept out of the way. Many parents comment on my technique and ask how to do it.. so here’s how! ⁣
🔉SOUND ON

👶🏽The baby’s neck and head should never be swaddled.⁣

👶🏼The hips should not be bound tightly.⁣

👶🏿The swaddle itself should be light, my preference is cotton muslin. ⁣

🤱🏼For information on swaddling safety refer to ⁣

•I thought it would be beneficial to share a tongue tie in motion instead of pictures! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👅This is a tie more towards the front of the tongue. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👅Notice how baby can slightly extend the tongue but for efficient feeding good lift is needed. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
👅The middle of the tongue is dipping downwards because it is being pulled down by the tight frenulum (tie) beneath. ⁣

👅This baby is mix fed. Post division bottle and breastfeeding improved. Less windy, more efficient and no pain for mum during breast feeding. ⁣⁣

•The use of a dummy when establishing feeding can be controversial but it is an item that many parents choose to give to their baby.⁣

💜Baby not being able to use a dummy is actually a common symptom of a tongue tie! ⁣

💜The reduced movement of the tongue and the high palate related to tongue tie makes generating good suction an issue so baby cannot sustain a decent suck on the dummy. ⁣

💜Baby may not find dummy use soothing due to it falling out of their mouth. This is also frustrating for parents who may try to hold it in place. ⁣

💜So if you have noticed this plus you are having other feeding issues then seek a tongue tie assessment from a registered practitioner and/or seek feeding support. ⁣
