Introducing our next speaker, Professor Duncan Tennent! 🗓️

Topic📢: AI- Rise of the Machines

Mr. Tennent qualified from St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1992. After training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, he spent a year on an arthroscopic fellowship in Virginia, USA. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at St. George’s Hospital, London in 2003. He was appointed as an Honorary Reader in Orthopaedic Education at the medical school in 2015 and as Professor in 2018. He is also the Director of Medical Education at the SWLEOC Orthopaedic Education Centre.

His particular interests are arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and elbow and he also spends much of his time on complex reconstructions of both joints following trauma. He has written a textbook of arthroscopic surgery as well as publishing a number of scientific articles on the subject and holds the patent for a revolutionary arthroscopic technique for reconstruction of the Acromio-clavicular Joint – The Tightrope Technique

Prof. Tennent reviews for a number of specialist journals including the the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Journal of Arthroscopy as well as being on the editorial board of the Bone and Joint Journal.

Introducing our next speaker 🔊

Irrum graduated from Imperial College London and now manages the Academic Surgical Unit at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). She, most recently, won the National Orthopaedic Alliance (NOA) Director’s Award.

As a member of the Research Quality Association and a professional member of the Research Ethics Committee for the Health Research Authority (HRA), Irrum has extensive experience in research ethics, research governance, data security, and outcomes. Irrum regularly attends HRA meetings, actively giving her opinion and guidance on research ethics and governance. She also has an interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has supported AI-related projects at SWLEOC.

Irrum is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma & Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA) Committee, the BOSTAA Research Committee in line with the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), and is the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity Lead for BOSTAA. Irrum is a Non-Executive Board Member of the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF). She has published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and frequently presents at national and international meetings.

Introducing our next speaker for the conference - Mr Vipin Asopa! 😁

Mr Asopa is a Specialist Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon. He has a particular focus on hip pain, knee pain and sports injuries. He performs numerous surgical procedures including hip and knee joint replacements, arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction surgery. He treats many injuries and conditions that can occur in sport, as well as treating arthritis, trochanteric pain and more. Mr Asopa is committed to improving patient care through research and outcome analyses.

Mr Asopa qualified from the University of Bristol in 1998. He completed his basic surgical training on the prestigious Hammersmith Hospital surgical rotation in 2002 before embarking on a PhD at Imperial College, London. In 2007 he undertook orthopaedic surgery training on the Charing-Cross North-West Thames rotation. He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011.

Mr Asopa travelled to Adelaide, Australia to undertake a fellowship at SportsMed.SA to develop and refine his sports surgery technique. He then returned to the UK for a further specialist hip arthroscopy and arthroplasty fellowship at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He finally completed a trauma fellowship in Vienna, Austria. From 2014, Mr Asopa has held a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon post at North Middlesex University Hospital.
