I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with 20 years' experience working as a Doctor. I am passionate about reducing stigma and empowering others through a combination of science and wisdom and have been doing this through radio, print media and seminars for over a decade. I'm now taking my first steps into social media and am grateful for your support. Thank you!
I believe that every difficulty can be an opportunity for us to undergo a metamorphosis into the best of ourselves and by taking an integrative approach to mental wellbeing and considering all sides of ourselves - psychological, social, physical and spiritual we give ourselves the best chance of being successful in this. Although most mental health problems can be prevented and even if they occur can be treated quickly, I’ve found that many people who come to see me have delayed asking for help and this can happen for many reasons but, if they’d come sooner, they would need less intense treatment and for a shorter period of time. Why do we leave it so long? Stigma is probably the first answer that comes to mind however, I think we have also developed a culture where our approach to our health is often reactive rather than proactive. In the pursuit of success, we may find we have little memory of what it feels like to be at our best. We forget that good health is not just the absence of disease and so recognising that things are off balance is one of the first steps in asking for help.
I hope you'll find my videos and posts useful and I look forward to being directed by you on what you'd like to hear more about.
