⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💗What does a normal, healthy period look like?💗⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is the period 101 info of what our periods should be like during our main menstruating years of late teens to early 40s:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Your cycle should be 25-35 days long, it is ok for it to change by couple of days here + there
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Your period should last 3-7 days. The first day of your period is the one when you have a proper flow and need to use menstrual products, spotting does not count as your period⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ During your period you should use around 6-10 pads or 10-20 tampons⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Spotting 1-2 day before your period properly arrives is fine ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Period colour varies but we are ideally looking for a vibrant red colour⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Small clots around 1cm are ok⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⭐️ Everyone's flow is different, but we don't want your period to start-stop-start⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If your period🩸doesn't look like this, get in touch as there's LOADS of really simple things you can do to ensure you have a healthy period 💪🏾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tell me in the👇🏾comments if you have any period questions. I'm here to help! 🥰

MISSING PERIODS//

From our late teens to early 40s we want our 🩸period to arrive every 25 to 35 days🗓

It it doesn't that is a 🚩red flag, friend, that something is going on that needs looking into to🕵🏻‍♀️

Our body stops 🥚ovulating (so no periods) when it feels under threat 😱

It does this to conserve 🔋energy to safeguard more important things like our 🧠brain + 🫀heart function

Not having a period is actually our body’s way of protecting us 🧿

Why would ovulation be switched off:

😫High stress levels
🏋🏽‍♀️Overtraining
⚖️Extreme dieting or eating disorders
🥗In some people becoming vegetarian or vegan can delay or switch off ovulation (I say this reluctantly as I use to be vegetarian and there’s many environmental + ethical reasons to be so)
☕️Drinking caffeinated soft drinks + smoking
💊Some prescribed medications + even painkillers like aspirin/ibuprofen
🦷Dental health - a 2011 study found that women with gum disease took on average two months longer to conceive than women without gum disease.
😴Melatonin levels
💗Low iron
💊Post-pill amenorrhoea
🦋Thyroid dysfunction
🩸PCOS
⭐️Excess production of prolactin
🧪BPA exposure

So what can you do if your 🩸period is missing?

🥦Nutrition - eating a balanced diet with each meal containing 50% veggies (yes 50%!), protein + healthy fats like ghee, olive oil, seeds or nuts
⠀⠀⠀
🛌Prioritising your sleep – we need 8 hours sleep a night. If you’re not bagging that much sleep or don’t wake feeling fully rested, you need to work on your sleep pronto. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧘🏻‍♀️Find ways to soothe your nervous system every single day - take 5 mins daily rest with your eyes closed listening to music, set an alarm on your phone to take 10 deep slow breaths, try Arvigo® self care massage, spend some time in nature ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
No improvement after 2 months? Defo see your doctor or naturopath to get more support.

(But, pretty 🙏🏼 please, don’t accept the hormonal 💊birth control as a fix to “regulate” your cycle as that doesn’t get to the root ⭐️cause of what is causing your missing periods!)

💗💗Let me know in the ⬇️comments ⬇️ what has helped your missing periods 💗💗

REST AS A REVOLUTIONARY ACT//

Our society values outward go-go-go energy 🏃🏻‍♀️

And frowns on rest + moving a bit slower 🐌

But with our 🧬biology if we slow down on our period we actually have MORE energy later on in our cycle

As the .school so beautifully say it, we slow down to speed up later ☄️

At yesterday’s Period Ready workshop I shared with the 9-12yo how our energy + mood change through our ⭕️ cycle

And that we may want to 🛏rest or have time alone just before + on our 🩸period

I only learnt this in my late 30s + jeez I wish I knew it sooner!!

Do you make time to 😎rest on your period?👇🏽Tell me in comments👇🏽

🌱 SEED CYCLING! 🌱⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Want an affordable and simple way to balance your hormones? 🙋🏽‍♀️ Well, seed cycling is for you!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seeds are bursting full of goodness! The seed hulls contain lignans, which bind up excess hormones, while the seed oils contain essential fatty acids for making our hormones ♥️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's the seed cycling lowdown:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💚 Day 1 of your cycle to whenever you ovulate OR New moon to full moon if you're not got a regular period⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨1 tbsp of freshly ground raw flaxseeds ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨1 tbsp of freshly ground raw pumpkin seeds⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💚 Around when you ovulate to when you bleed OR Full moon to new moon if you're not got a regular period⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨1 tbsp of freshly ground raw sesame⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨1 tbsp of freshly ground raw sunflower seeds⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PRO TIPS:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Best to grind the seeds yourself (those pre-ground seeds can be rancid). I use a second hand coffee grinder to grind my seeds! 🤣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Save time by grinding 5 days worth at one time and store them in the freezer so they are ready to be added to your salads, soups, yoghurt in a jiffy 🥗⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Skip pre-grinding if using the seeds in a smoothie🥤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🎉 MOST IMPORTANT TIP! There is no hard + fast rule with seed cycling. If this seed schedule doesn't suit, fret not. Just add any of these seeds ANYTIME to your life! They are soooo good for us 💗⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💷 Now for the £1 million question!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Will seed cycling alone fix your period and hormone problems? 🤨 If only!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seed cycling is brilliant as part of a ⚖️ balanced diet and definitely worth a whirl. But with our health, there is no silver bullet 🤷🏽‍♀️ I wish there bloody was! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let me know in the👇🏾comments if you've tried seed cycling before. Did it help you? 🧐

We can feel all the feels as we close out the year 💯

There's this weird focus + pressure at this time of year...

💔 On the relationships you have with your family + loved ones

🔍 Reflecting on what you’ve achieved this year (+ what you’ve lost)

😥 Needing dynamic, roaring plans for 2022

When actually we are still just trying to muddle through with the constant 🌪 fear of a pandemic being projected 📽 on to us by the 🗞 MSM + people’s mental health silently suffering while we all keep saying “I’m fine, I’m fine” 🤯

For those who feel out of sorts you ain't alone ♥️

Big big love to every one of you beauties! 🥰

PSA: period pain is common, but not normal! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A small amount of pain, which needs 1 or 2 painkillers for your whole period, that is ok⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Anything more than that?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a sign that something is out of balance in your body + you need help⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know it's not what we've been told by doctors + our society⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We've been told that period pain is normal, womxn are suppose to suffer⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The truth is the majority of period pain can be significantly improved with simple diet + lifestyle changes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
YES there definitely can be underlying issues like fibroids + endometriosis which causes all sorts of monthly hell⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The good news is that thankfully they often respond to small tweaks to our diet + lifestyle ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are just 3 things you can do to help your period pain:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DIET - reduce or avoid completely dairy, sugar + alcohol in second half of your cycle. Dairy in particular has a huge link to period pain⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PHYSICAL ISSUES - injuries to our pelvis (from falling off your bike or slipping on a wet surface, even as a kid) can impact the alignment of your pelvis + so how your uterus sits in your pelvic bowl⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
MENSTRUAL/INTIMATE CARE PRODUCTS - basically ALL leading brands are toxic as hell UNLESS they are jumping up + down saying they are super, duper healthy. Switch to non-toxic menstrual products, lubricants + ditch the douches! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If those changes don't help after 2-3 months, get in touch + I'll share some other ideas with you⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What do you think, friends? Do you think painless periods are actually possible? Tell me in the comments
