The resident doctors' strike has ended but our emergency departments are very busy.

If you are unwell and need non-emergency treatment there are alternative services available if you are unable to see your GP.

NHS 111 online will direct you to the best place for your symptoms and pharmacists can offer advice on a range of illnesses, give advice about medicines - and if they cannot help you themselves, they can refer you to a GP or other health professional.

Strike action is taking place from 7am on Friday 25 July until 7am on Wednesday 30 July. 👇

Resident doctors’ strikes begin on Friday and will put extra pressure on NHS services over the coming week and comes as hospitals are seeing their busiest summer in years.

Dr Richard Jennings, Group Chief Medical Officer for St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group, said: “We have a difficult week coming up and we need members of the public to help us – whether that’s using the most appropriate service for their health need or taking steps to prevent becoming unwell."

While many appointments will need to be rescheduled due to the strikes, patients should still attend unless they hear otherwise – and should always come to hospital in an emergency.
