Wishing you all super well on World Mental Health Day 2021. I know mental health can mean a lot of different things to different people, and how to take care of yours ❤️. I spent my morning getting my fix of very sociable cockapoo puppies and yoga teaching at 🐾🐶🥰. A lovely mood boost for teachers and students alike! And this little fella Buddy certainly made practicing splits a little easier 🤭. Swipe to end to see a clip trying not to get distracted whilst teaching! Only a slight fail 🐾. I hope this post brings you a little joy today 🐶✨

Today marks the return to teaching at after summer break. Can’t wait to share wonderful experiences with clients and puppies this weekend. It will be my first time working with puppy huskies!
In the meantime here are some pretty cute throwbacks to my favourite golden retriever puppy from earlier in the summer. 🐶🐾

Happy International Yoga Day!
Yoga can mean a lot of different things to different people. And it can also encompass many different types of practices for the same person, on different days! Yoga could look like a demanding inversion (photo 1) or it can feel like a restorative mindful practice (photo 2) or maybe even therapeutic sessions with pets (I’ve been teaching a lot of pets yoga lately which is course different to “traditional” yoga but no less beneficial 🥰).
I like to practice and teach different styles of yoga and I am always looking to grow and offer more. I am super excited as I will shortly be taking further training on restorative yoga teachings - I can’t wait to share what I learn with you! As a teacher I am sure the best thing you can do is continue to learn. As a student? Particularly if new to yoga... you will benefit by remaining open to new practices and styles. I saw yoga as a physical practice only for a long time. And many people also enter yoga for injury prevention or to learn super cool moves only. Nothing wrong with that. But if you stick around long enough the unplanned benefits may surprise you. 🥰
What do you think? What is your experience of yoga?

My heart is full from classes at the weekend. 🐰🐶🐱 Bunnies, golden retriever puppies and these beautiful and playful rag doll kittens. I had a little cuddle with one after the classes. Thanks to the pets yoga and all the attendees that enjoyed the yoga sections too! I’ll be back this weekend for more bunnies and puppies!

Happy Friday everyone! Can’t wait to enjoy a sunny weekend finally here in the UK

Trying my hand at handstands ‘on the edge’! You can tell I was a little apprehensive by the shape and my lack of pointed toes which if you know me.. is unusual 😬
Very excited for an action packed weekend teaching at . Bunnies, kittens and puppies oh my!

The SECRET to working on something you struggle with. 🔐
It’s fairly obvious it’s a LOT easier to exercise in ways you are comfortable with and excel at naturally. But what about when you want to improve something you are weaker at? Do you struggle with motivation?
This pose looks good from this angle but actually I have a long way to go to master my middle splits. Due in part the shape of skeleton/ joints and in part due to weaker/ inactive muscles it’s taking me a long time too feel or see any progress! Do you have a specific skill (“handstand but I’m scared or stuck”) or general practice (“I want to do more yoga but I am really inflexible”) ?? I’m curious to know. My hacks for overcoming lack of motivation for training what you think you are weaker at, are:
1. Carve out times and places to practice. That way you take away the decision to turn up. In other words if you decide you might train on Monday at some point, when you get to Monday you then need to decide on a time and place to train and that doesn’t always happen! If the training logistics are in the diary on Sunday night you are more likely to turn up when Monday rolls around.
2. Be patient with results. If each week you see no progress in your skill or general practice feels just as hard as it always did, remind yourself to trust the process and try and enjoy the journey with no pressure for an outcome in a certain period. You are trying and practicing and that’s a celebration in its own right: go you !
3. If you are unsure or lack knowledge to guide yourself through practice or train a new skill then consult a professional or coach who can guide you so your practice is more targeted / effective. Depending on what suits you best that could be classes or 121s.
If yoga practice is something you’ve been meaning to do but not got around to yet, join my restorative class tonight at 6:30pm BST - a nice mix of vinyasa flow and more relaxed section to release tension in the body and mind. New joiners are welcome to join. Link in BIO to sign up.

A great gateway to Pincha and Handstand balancing is arm balancing, but it is also an impressive feat in itself!
Whilst you do need some strength in your upper body and some flexibility for certain arm balances, once you have this, the main ingredient to most is learning how to shift your weight, with control. If you are struggling to “lift off” in poses like crow and crane, it’s usually more about technique and trusting yourself to transfer your weight forwards (or in some cases backwards) into the pose.

Want to practice with me?

I am doing my yoga and inversions live online class at 10am GMT Sunday and this week the 20 min interactive workshop section focus is on an arm balance or two 😉. Great fun in your bank holiday weekend. Link in BIO to book.

Five things to think about when mastering the HEADSTAND (yogi / supported style).
1. Align your hands and elbows correctly, to stack your joints safely and effectively!
2. Roll the correct part of your head down onto the mat to protect the neck.
3. Engage the shoulder frame to take the pressure out of the head - most of the weight should be in the shoulders.
4. Controlled entry. Stack hips over shoulders until the feet are light and can be lifted without a jump. Helps to warm up hamstrings to make entry more accessible.
5. Learn how to safely roll out of headstand - the body should roll down from shoulders to hips with legs held high until the end (don’t allow the legs to drop quickly).
( and finally... 6. Have fun and play with shapes, movement, and lifts to forearm stand! The possibilities are endless!)
Want to learn more? Come practice with me in my one hour Sunday class at 10am GMT which 20 minute workshop section will focus on headstands, and we will work together on achieving your goals. You can be learning your headstand or wish to improve it. Options will be given to all levels in the workshop section 🙏🏻
