“Just quit!” must be the worst advice to someone who smokes and wants to quit.

People who make comments like these don’t understand what smokers are going through.

Even smokers themselves get tricked into believing that they can quit smoking using willpower alone.

Yet, the fact that you smoke has nothing to do with your lack of mental toughness.

In actuality, as a smoker, you have more willpower than most people.

Wait, what?

Just think about this for a moment: you had to have enough willpower to get yourself hooked despite how horrible those ci******es tasted at first. And since you continue to smoke, you must be a strong-willed or even rebellious type, as society these days tries to shame and ban smokers everywhere.

The bottom line is, quitting smoking has little to do with your willpower.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FEAR OF QUITTING SMOKING.

Yes, that’s right. It’s the fear of quitting smoking that plants the seed of failure.

You fear that if you quit smoking, your life will never be the same without ci******es.

After all, ci******es are fun, relaxing, and help you concentrate, right? How will you be able to have your morning coffee without a cigarette? What will you use to relax? How will you be able to have a beer without a smoke? Or hang out with your friends?

This is a fear that only smokers feel.

And until you find a way to defeat this fear, quitting smoking will be a very hard thing to do.

How do you cope with the fear of living without smoking?

Have you ever noticed how most quit smoking methods, or even addiction treatment counselors frame quitting smoking?

All of them talk about “giving up smoking.”

The problem is, this notion of “giving up” creates an illusion that there is something to give up in the first place.

In actuality, there’s absolutely nothing to “give up” here.

When you quit smoking, you don’t lose anything.

On the contrary – you claim so many amazing things back:
- you claim your health back
- you claim your freedom back
- you claim your peace of mind back
- you claim your self-respect back

Sometimes people who have been smoking for many years fear that the damage has already been done.

They feel there’s no sense in trying to quit because it won’t have any positive effect on their bodies.

While it is true that your health will benefit more if you quit smoking when you’re younger, it’s never too late to reap the benefits.

In fact, after you quit smoking, your risk of suffering severe health conditions will decrease within a very short time.

That being said, one of the best reasons to quit smoking has nothing to do with your health.

The feeling of freedom and independence is worth it alone.

If you are an ex-smoker, what have you gained from quitting smoking?

If you want to quit smoking, what do you expect to gain from quitting?
