There is only one more week to nominate for the Barchester Care Awards 2026.

With so many exciting categories ranging from ‘Apprentice of the Year’ and ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’, to ‘Carer of the Year’ and ‘Resident Ambassador of the Year’, this is a great opportunity to celebrate the heroes across our Barchester care homes and hospitals.

🚴‍♂️ Tour de Barchester 2026: Day 4 – The Grand Finale 🚴‍♀️

What a journey it’s been! The cyclists completed the final leg of this incredible challenge.

The day began with a visit to Archview Lodge Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where the staff prepared a fresh Teppanyaki-style breakfast and an amazing spread with pancakes, omelettes, fresh fruit and treats. A big thank you to all for the fantastic hospitality.

From there, the cyclists headed to Drummond Grange Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where everyone went the extra mile with Resident Ambassador, Susanne, crafting personalised goody bags for the riders and support crew. The cyclists were treated to TDB-made cakes, a fresh fruit buffet and complimentary massages from the Physiotherapist, Gilberto.

Next stop Strachan House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where the cyclists received a fantastic welcome. A big thank you to Frances Fisher, General Manager, and all the team for their hospitality, refreshments, spectacular bagpipes and Scottish dancing.

At Queens Manor Care Home - Barchester Healthcare the team received another wonderful welcome with afternoon tea and delicious treats. A true highlight of the visit was meeting Brenda, 91, she spoke passionately about her lifetime achievement of cycling 30,000 miles. It was very heart-warming when, upon learning she had never received a medal for her incredible accomplishment, Simon McCall presented her with an official Tour de Barchester medal. In a lovely exchange, Brenda also presented medals to the cyclists.

What an excellent visit to Balclutha Court Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where the cyclists were welcomed with a BBQ and fantastic entertainment from a brilliant singer. It was wonderful to see residents singing, dancing and enjoying the music.

And finally… the team made their way to Four Hills Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in .

Residents and staff cheered on and welcomed the cyclists with champagne as they crossed the finish line. It was such a joyous occasion with live performances and a trophy ceremony. It was a fantastic way to honour the hard work of all the cyclists and the support crew.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the cyclists, the support crew and everyone involved in making this year’s event such a remarkable success! 👏

🚴‍♂️ Tour de Barchester 2026: Day 3 🚴‍♀️

What a fantastic start to day 3! A big thank you to the team at South Grange Care Centre - Barchester Healthcare in for hosting such a wonderful breakfast for the cyclists, featuring everything from pancake spaghetti and overnight oats to jelly baby pick-and-mix bags.

Residents were absolutely delighted to welcome the cyclists. Even with the rain, the arrival of the bagpipes set a tone and kept everyone’s spirits high.

Next up, the team had a wonderful visit to Ochil Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where everyone went above and beyond. Residents and staff lined up to cheer the cyclists, complete with a beautiful, handmade sign crafted by the residents themselves. The Hospitality Team prepared a fantastic BBQ and there were plenty of delicious cakes for all to enjoy.

At Canmore Lodge Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , the final home visit of day 3, the cyclists received a warm welcome. Residents gathered outside to cheer on the cyclists and the energy was incredible. A huge thank you to Kimberley Laird, General Manager, for preparing takeaway goody bags packed with essential supplies to fuel the team for their final day.

A big thank you to all our colleagues and teams who supported the cyclists today. The final day is in sight! Whoop whoop! 👏

🚴‍♂️ Tour de Barchester 2026: Day 2 🚴‍♀️

A warm and wonderful welcome awaited the cyclists at Kirkburn Court Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , where staff turned out in full force to greet them. No detail was overlooked, with the team laying on a superb breakfast and beautiful themed decorations.

A special thank you goes to the Activities Coordinator, Claire, who truly went above and beyond by creating bespoke goody bags for the cyclists to take away. The cyclists were given a spectacular send off, complete with bagpipes and confetti, as they departed for their next destination.

The team had another incredible home visit, a huge thank you to the wonderful team at Fairview House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in . Everyone gathered outside to give the cyclists a spectacular welcome. The energy and excitement throughout the home were infectious. A special thank you to the Chef and Hospitality Team for providing a fantastic lunch for the team.

The next stop was at Lethen Park Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in . A huge thank you to the entire team for making it such a memorable experience. The Activities Coordinator, Amanda, truly went above and beyond, arranging a delightful afternoon tea and even organising a coffee truck for everyone to enjoy.

Now, onto the final home of Day 2!

At Fordmill Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , the team truly pulled out all the stops to host a sensational and visit. The cyclists received an incredible welcome from residents, community members, the children from the Gordon School of Dancing and even two alpacas! Staff, residents and cyclists joined together for Scottish wheelchair dancing. The dance group put on a fabulous performance that had everyone dancing and singing along.

A special thank you goes to Julia, Senior Activities Coordinator, and the entire team for their effort in making this visit so spectacular. Aileen, General Manager at Fordmill and one of this year’s cyclists, was incredibly proud and deeply moved by the wonderful surprises the home had in store.

🚴‍♂️ Tour de Barchester 2026: Day 1 🚴‍♀️

A fantastic start to the tour in Thurso!

First stop Pentland View Care Home - Barchester Healthcare where the cyclists were greeted with bagpipes, a warm welcome from staff and residents, and breakfast enjoyed together.

Everyone was pleased to be joined by Lord Thurso, Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness, who gave a wonderful speech and congratulated the team.

The team made their way to Seaview House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in after a very challenging and windy ride from John o' Groats. They were welcomed with a great buffet lunch, creatively laid out in the shape of a bicycle. Special thanks to Hannah, Activities Coordinator, who made a clay trophy to celebrate the cyclists.

Next stop: Highview House Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in , the final home of Day 1.

The cyclists arrived to the sound of bagpipes and a delightful performance by the children from the Fraser School of Dancing. The home was filled with cheer and there was also a special celebration for Paul, who was presented with a 10-year long-service award.

🚴‍♀️ Good Luck to all the Cyclists! 👏

Tour de Barchester 2026 is officially underway - from 19th to 22nd May, Simon McCall, Commercial Director and Shona Conway, Project Co-ordinator, along with colleagues, friends and sponsors are taking on a 200-mile ride from Thurso to Glasgow, visiting 16 of our care homes along the way.

They’re not just cycling for the challenge – they’re raising funds and awareness for Barchester's Charitable Foundation which supports older people and those living with disabilities to stay connected with their local communities.

👨‍🍳 Senior Head Chef Impresses Audiences at the Care Show 2026 👨‍🍳

Staff and residents at Friston House Care Home in are congratulating their talented Senior Head Chef, Abin Babu and Divisional Hospitality Manager, Melvyn Knights, who delivered an exceptional live presentation at the Care Show at London’s ExCel exhibition centre.

The Care Show is the UK’s leading social care conference and exhibition, bringing together thousands of care professionals to share advice and best practices.

Abin and Melvyn joined forces to showcase the importance of safe and nutritious meals within a care setting. The duo impressed the audience as they prepared two delicious meals suitable for a modified diet, demonstrating a combination of textures. A cottage pie with broccoli and carrots and a chicken breast with red wine sauce, accompanied with purple sprouting broccoli and rainbow carrots.

Attendees were impressed with the dishes and enjoyed tasting them, praising Abin and Melvyn on both quality and flavour. 👏

✨ Celebrating Bill’s Remarkable Life with the Royals and Hollywood Stars ✨

Staff and residents at Iddenshall Hall Care Home in were proud to celebrate one of their much-loved residents, Bill, with a special book-signing event for his autobiography, ‘My Mountbatten Years’.

Bill has lived a remarkable life, serving in the Royal Navy and then working as a valet for Lord Mountbatten. During his time working with the Royal Family, he travelled the world and met many Hollywood stars, including Charlie Chaplin, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.

After discovering Bill had written a book about his experiences, the team at the home arranged a surprise afternoon to hear more about his extraordinary life and achievements.

Bill shared: “I am amazed at what the staff here have done for me and the amount of people who have found and bought my book. It is so kind of everyone to hold this special event for me, it was a wonderful surprise.”

It was a truly special occasion! 👏
