“Birth can impact long-term physical health, as well as subsequent pregnancies and births. Birth shapes how we see ourselves and our babies, as well as feelings about our birth support team. Birth itself brings the opportunity for healing of past losses through tender, uninterrupted, focused support.” - Jacqueline Kelleher

This sums up my WHY.

Because pregnancy, birth and the post partum period are important.

Birth is transformational, monumental , wonderful and normal all at the same time.

We deserve to be mindful and intentional about these experiences, to be nurtured, supported and uplifted through them - as they have the power to transform our lives.

You can not rush nature🪴

I truly believe that unless there is a threat to life, you should take time to really weigh up your options. It sounds obvious, but when a medical professional is suggesting what they believe to be the best course of action and to do it now, it can be easy to feel like you have no other option.

If there is no medical emergency you may want to consider using the BRAIN acronym :
What are the BENEFITS ?
What are the RISKS ?
Are there any ALTERNATIVE courses of action ?
What is my INTUITION telling me ?
What will happen if instead of the suggested course of action I do NOTHING ?
What will happen if I do NOTHING for the next 30 mins /hour?
How does my birthing partner feel ?

If it’s not a medical emergency and you ever feel like you’re being rushed into a decision just take a step back , breathe and remember to use your Brain 🧠😉

Health = Wealth

So know your options , educate yourself and take ownership of the decisions you make regarding your care💅🏽 whether you’re pregnant or want to be one day there’s no better time than now to start advocating for yourself and your health.

These are some of the ways I advocate for myself 🥰 How do you ? 💛

⚡️ Women and people who feel threatened during labour are likely to produce high levels of Adrenalin.

⚡️Adrenalin slows labour and can stop it from progressing all together.

⚡️ Adrenalin also prohibits the release of oxytocin making the process more painful/ uncomfortable/ challenging.

⚡️Birth in its truest form is natural and our bodies are designed to be able to do it, so the fight or flight mode that adrenalin activates (when we perceive the natural processes of labour and birth to be a threat) is extremely disruptive. It creates tension in the body leading to more ‘pain’ leading to more ‘fear’ leading to more ‘tension’, leading to more ‘pain’ leading to more ‘fear’ … Etc etc etc

⚡️In todays society, if you’ve been fed the same narratives about birth that I have, being scared to give birth is completely understandable. BUT it doesn’t have to be that way.

⛅️ Whether you’re pregnant with your first baby, or you’re on your 2nd,3rd,4th or 5th child, hypnobirthing can support you in removing the programmed fear you hold around birth and reward you with the confidence to birth in a calm and positive way.

Please get in touch if you’d like to know more , I’d love to hear from you 🥰🧡

🥛 Prolactin is a hormone made by the pituitary gland which is a small gland at the base of the brain.

🍼 It causes the breasts to grow and make milk during pregnancy and after birth.

🥛Prolactin peaks at birth but doesn’t remain elevated unless stimulated by baby’s suckling/breast pumping which will cause this hormone to spike.

🥛During periods when you’re not breast/chest feeding your prolactin levels will decrease reducing your milk production.

🍼It’s known as the mothering hormone because it supports bonding between mother and baby.

🥛High levels of prolactin with breastfeeding may encourage women’s caretaking behaviours and help them adjust to being a mother. Which in turn supports neonatal healthy development .

🥛🍼Best way to raise prolactin levels ? :
Breast feed / Chest feed regularly!
