Cortisol is one of the most powerful hormones in the human body.
Cortisol levels have major impact on our bodies and brain. Optimal health cannot be achieved, if your cortisol is imbalanced. Abnormal cortisol levels affect numerous bodily processes, including production of energy, cell development, metabolic health, immune system, brain and cognitive function, mental health, fertility, weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, inflammation and digestion. Both high and low levels of cortisol are detrimental to our health. Both excessive cortisol and drop in cortisol predispose us to a higher risk of mortality.
🎯 High cortisol levels result from chronic stress, chronic pain, chronic blood sugar dysregulation, Cushing’s syndrome, exposure to synthetic hormone therapy. Low cortisol levels are also caused by chronic stress and chronic blood sugar dysregulation.
🙌🏼 However, when cortisol levels are low or flat throughout the day, it means that you have entered an exhaustion stage of stress, aka burnout. You can have high cortisol levels for years, but when cortisol becomes low it is very hard to fix.
