Last year, the campaign showed what happens when people come together for carers, not just in words, but in action.

From individuals to organisations, the support was visible, practical, and needed.

These moments matter because behind every post, every contribution, every shared message, there are carers doing the work every single day.

And the reality hasn’t changed.

If anything, the need for support, visibility, and recognition has only grown.

This year's Campaign will be more intentional and even more impactful.

Stay with us.

A lot of people feel stuck in their careers.

But it’s rarely just one big problem.

Most times, it’s one of these four things working quietly in the background.

The first step isn’t doing more.
It’s understanding what’s actually slowing you down.

Which one stands out for you?

10/04/2026

A lot of people want to move into leadership.

But very few are preparing for it.

Leadership isn’t about getting the title first.
It’s about being ready before the opportunity comes.

If your manager stepped away today, would you know what to do?
Handle decisions, guide the team, take responsibility?

If the answer is no, that’s not a failure.
It’s direction.

It shows you what you need to start learning, what you need to start practicing, and where you need to grow.

Start there.

If you’re serious about stepping into leadership, BWIC gives you access to opportunities, insight, and a community that supports your growth.

Before any of this became visible, there was a decision to create something the sector actually needed.

Olayinka built Black Women in Care to address gaps in access, visibility, and connection for Black women working across care.

Not just as a community, but as a platform that supports growth, leadership, and opportunity.

At the same time, Dominion Consultancy Group continues to do the work on the ground, supporting care providers with systems, training, and workforce development that improve how care is delivered.

From creating space for honest conversations
To recognising excellence across the sector
To initiatives that highlight the realities of the workforce

The focus has always been impact.

And that impact is being built consistently, across both platforms.

She’s not only doing the work,
she’s building structures that allow that work to grow, sustain, and reach further.

A lot of people say they feel stuck in their careers.

But when asked “What role are you working towards?”
There’s usually no clear answer.

That’s the real issue.

Growth doesn’t happen only because you’re working hard.
It happens when you’re working towards something specific.

If you don’t define your next step:
You won’t know what to learn
You won’t know what to ask for
You won’t even recognise opportunities when they show up

Start simple.

What role do you actually want next?
And what’s one thing you can start doing to move towards it?

That’s how progress begins.

If you’re ready to take that step further, BWIC gives you access to opportunities, visibility, and a community that supports your growth.

Magdalene’s impact is felt in how she shows up when it matters most.

She brings a level of calm, clarity, and coordination that helps both teams and service users navigate difficult moments with confidence.

But beyond that, she pays attention to what can be done better taking lessons from real situations and turning them into improvements that strengthen the quality of care.

Her leadership is also reflected in how she supports others mentoring colleagues, sharing knowledge, and creating an environment where people feel encouraged to grow.

It’s this combination of steady leadership and continuous improvement that makes her work stand out.

This is what legacy looks like.

We'll continue to recognise women like Magdalene who are not only doing the work, but strengthening how care is delivered every day.

Folashade's leadership is reflected not just in outcomes, but in people.

Across multiple testimonials, one thing is consistent her ability to support, guide, and build others.

She creates an environment where staff feel equipped to do their jobs well and where service users receive care that is thoughtful, consistent, and dignified.

Her approach combines structure with empathy ensuring that standards are met without losing the human side of care.

Beyond her role, she continues to shape how care is experienced within her team and community through mentorship, accountability, and a clear commitment to doing things well.

This is what legacy looks like.

We continue to recognise women like Folashade who are not only doing the work, but shaping how it is delivered, experienced, and sustained across the care sector.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day.
But in care spaces, awareness alone isn’t enough.

What actually matters is how well we understand, support, and adapt.

Autistic individuals interact with the world differently. That’s not a deficit. But when care systems aren’t designed with that in mind, it creates real barriers.

Here are a few things care professionals should keep in mind:

1. Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all
Some individuals may prefer clear, direct language or need more processing time.

2. Sensory environments matter
Noise, lighting, and routine disruptions can significantly impact wellbeing.

3. Behaviour is communication
What may be labelled as “challenging” often reflects unmet needs or discomfort.

4. Consistency builds trust
Predictability and structure can make a huge difference in care experiences.

This is about doing better, with understanding.

As a community of women working across health and social care, we all have a role to play in creating spaces that are not just aware, but truly inclusive.

SueAnn’s impact is felt in the environment she creates.

There is a sense of care that goes beyond responsibilities. It shows in how she supports her team, how she connects with residents, and how she pays attention to the moments that others might overlook.

She leads with empathy and intention, creating a space where people feel comfortable, valued, and supported in their roles and in their care.

Her approach reminds us that leadership is not always loud. Sometimes, it is reflected in consistency, presence, and the way people experience care on a daily basis.

This is what legacy looks like.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been spotlighting The Women Behind The Work... Women whose impact across the care sector speaks for itself.

And the truth is, there are still more stories to tell.
So we’re continuing.

Continuing to recognise the women who are shaping care through their leadership, their consistency, and the way they show up for others every day.

Because the work matters.
And so do the women behind it.

Catherine’s impact is not built on noise or recognition.
It is built on consistency.

In the way she carries out her role, supports her colleagues, and shows up for the people in her care, there is a clear sense of reliability and intention. She creates an environment where both clients and staff feel supported, respected, and understood.

She is known for her attention to detail, her calm approach in challenging situations, and her ability to build trust through everyday interactions. These are the qualities that shape not just individual experiences, but the overall standard of care within a team.

Her recognition as Staff of the Year reflects what those around her already know. That her work is consistent, her approach is genuine, and her presence makes a difference.

Because legacy is not always about scale or visibility.
Sometimes, it is about the people who show up every day and quietly raise the standard for everyone else.

This is what legacy looks like.

This IWD month, we recognise women who are not only doing the work, but shaping how care is experienced through consistency, compassion, and commitment.
