📸 A Glimpse into the Neolithic Past: Marlborough Mound! 🌳

Recently had the incredible privilege of visiting the Marlborough Mound in Wiltshire, thanks to permission from Marlborough College, which owns the land.

It was truly awe-inspiring to stand on a site with such a deep history!

What many don't realize is that this isn't just a castle mound – its origins stretch back to the Neolithic period, around 2400 BC! 🤯

That makes it a contemporary of Stonehenge and Silbury Hill, and one of the largest prehistoric mounds in Britain. Later, it became a Norman castle motte and even a Georgian garden feature, but its Neolithic roots are what make it truly special.

Important Note: Marlborough Mound is located on private land within Marlborough College, and public access is limited. Visits are usually by pre-arranged tours or during special open days. Check with the Marlborough Mound Trust for details if you're interested in visiting!
It's a powerful reminder of how our landscapes hold layers upon layers of human history.

"numbers are picking up and we are getting some juvenile birds which is lovely.

Today we had a good variety which included:
Chiffchaff
Whitethroat
Lesser Whitethroat
Goldfinch
Greenfinch
Reed Bunting
Blue Tit

We also had a Red Kite flyover and a Kestrel hanging around."
