This , we’re shining a light on the Progress Pride badge, launched for Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust as a visible commitment to LGBT+ inclusive healthcare.

The updated design reflects the Progress Pride flag, celebrating the many identities within the LGBT+ community. Staff who wear the badge show that they provide a safe, open, and non-judgemental space for patients to talk about sexuality and gender identity.

The rainbow badge initiative was first developed at Evelina London and rolled out across the Trust in February 2019. A year later, seven in 10 NHS Trusts had followed Guy’s and St Thomas’ lead. Now, with the launch of the Progress Pride badge, the Trust continues to set the standard for creating a healthcare system where everyone feels welcome, safe, and respected.

Initiatives like this are only possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Together, we’re breaking down barriers to care and building inclusive environments.

Hospitals can be busy, bustling places, full of patients, visitors, and healthcare teams going about their day.

This is why, thanks to our exceptional supporters, we’ve brought the award-winning Florence Nightingale Garden to St Thomas’ Hospital. Originally commissioned by The Burdett Trust for Nursing for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, the garden embodies the theme ‘nurture through nature’, reflecting Florence Nightingale’s vision of the importance of light, air, and green spaces in hospital environments.

Florence is considered the pioneer of modern nursing and established the first professional nursing school at St Thomas’ Hospital in 1860. Her ideas about care, compassion, and the healing power of nature continue to inspire us today.

Avey Bhatia, Chief Nurse at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust said, “The garden is a very welcome gift that our patients, staff and visitors will be able to enjoy. It is beautifully designed and will offer an oasis of calm in a busy hospital environment”.

Last year, former Clapham Town councillor Nigel Haselden abseiled 160 feet down St Thomas’ Hospital in gratitude to the teams who’ve been by his side through decades of treatment.

Diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer in 2004 and given just a 10% chance of surviving five years, Nigel defied the odds after surgery and chemotherapy. Since then, he’s faced smouldering myeloma, glaucoma, a detached retina, and vertigo - yet through it all, he’s never lost his determination.

Nigel said, “I’m very indebted for the attention I’ve had. The abseil was one way to give something back – it was tremendous, and I really enjoyed it!”

Thanks to generous donors like you, dental care at Guy’s Hospital is now up to 12x faster – with patients waiting just two weeks instead of six months.

This breakthrough comes from an innovative pilot using virtual clinics, which connect local dentists directly with hospital consultants. This means that patients can get the care they need closer to home, avoiding stressful, costly trips into London.
