Spirituality 🕉️ meets Science 🧬
🌟 Today is an auspicious date in the Hindu Calendar known as ‘Sh*tala Satam’, particularly celebrated in Gujarat.
🌟Most know this to be a day when no cooking is done all day. A puja ceremony is performed on the cooking stove in the morning, and cold foods are to be eaten.
🌟The significance is to honour the Goddess Sh*tala Mata …who I love to think of as the ‘Child Health Goddess’ 💗💗💗 She has the power to cool fevers with her neem leaves, and sweep away viruses with her ‘broom’👏🏽👏🏽
🌟Mothers observe this day to bless their children with good health and protection from infections for the coming season (on our case it will be ‘Back to School’ soon!!)
🌟Foods are cooked the day before and kept at room temperature to be eaten today.
🌟Science now tells us that these foods will increase in probiotic content, therefore supporting the gut microbiome and increasing immunity!!
🌟I love these examples of rituals which hold a health benefit, all found in the science of Ayurveda.

‘Snowy Balls’ Recipe…as promised🥕🥕⛄️⛄️
Had some extra carrots to use up, so rustled up these sweet and spiced treats ….(inspired by ‘Gajar Halwa’ to go along with a nice cup of masala chai!)
These also make a great after-school snack, full of vitamins and minerals 😊
🧡Ingredients:
120g carrots (finely grated or blitzed in food processor)
3 Medjool dates
4 Apricots
2 Tbsp Applesauce
2 Tbsp Maple syrup
30g Oats
30g Coconut flour (optional)
30g crushed pistachios or almonds
1/2 Tsp Cinnamon powder
1/4 tsp Nutmeg powder
1/4 tsp Ginger powder
(1/4 tsp Cardamom-optional)
10-30g Dessicated coconut 🥥 for rolling (aka Snow!)
🧡Method:
1. Add the dates, apricots, applesauce, maple syrup and nuts to a food processor and blitz to a coarse mixture
2. Add the mixture into the grated carrot and add your spices
3. Mix well and then form into balls around 3-4cm diameter
4. Roll each hall in the dessicated coconut
5. Serve, or store in the fridge
(Will last up to 5 days)

Happy Diwali, Happy New Year (to all who were and are celebrating) and Happy Thursday!🎉🎉
I have been MIA for a few months, and WOW what a rollercoaster few months it has been!
Personally this has mainly been dealing with serious illness in my family. As a collective in the U.K. and in the world, we have all witnessed events which have rocked us…
So with this emotional stress and anxieties and change going on, how can we stay centred and calm to weather the storm?!
Here are some tried and tested ways which have helped me:
🤗 Healing Hugs…a 20 second or longer hug releases the feel good hormone Oxytocin which helps combat stress.
😆Laughter…just watching comedy or laughing at silly things (‘If you don’t laugh, you cry’ etc!) gives a serotonin burst and moves Chi around your body..
☕️ Good old Cups of tea! I’ve preferred less caffeine and more soothing drinks. Tea contains Theanine which is an amino acid with a nerve-calming effect!
🤫Being quieter, meditation, or having a mindful moment…which comes easily to an introvert like me!
🎶 Music…playing fave tunes and singing (usually while cleaning 🤣) helps blast worries away
💃🏽 Dancing/Walking…moving our bodies tell the brain we have ‘moved away’ from danger
🏅 Looking for the daily wins….no matter how small..gives a little dopamine hit!
🙏🏽Gratitude…finding even the simplest things to be grateful for each day helps move our autonomic nervous system into a parasympathetic state.

💛Featuring some of my all-time favourite ingredients …which Isabella flew to Sicily to source for her mouthwatering menu! We felt we had been transported there✈️
💛Tomatoes, truffle, olives, pistachios and more…
💛Perfectly formed handmade pasta, awesome aubergine parmigiana and an unforgettable pistachio tiramisu to finish👌🏽
💛Great to finally meet and catch up with too🤗

❤️Happy Weekend! 🌸 🌺 🌸🌺
Apologies for being so quiet on these squares for so long, but life has been…let’s just say…interesting!!
❤️This past week or so we have made a big effort to ‘make new memories’…to get out to different places, to meet up with people, and to just enjoy being in the moment 🥰
❤️It has been a wonderful week of laughter, singing, family, friendship, flowers, food, science, art and drama!
❤️In between, I’ve also managed to run my Nutrition clinics and see my NHS patients…and of course run the house, cook healthy meals, and make sure the kids are ok while exam season is on!
❤️I have also been getting up earlier to do the daily Sun Salutation practice with ..and amazingly enjoy completing 12 in a row!
❤️Looking forward to a quieter weekend …but my heart feels full, my body feels energised, and my mind is surprisingly refreshed!
❤️I am now planning to post a bit more often, with more family nutrition tips, food inspiration and focus on wellbeing ..

Fully enjoyed by the boys though, and all done in 15 mins!!
Just a nod to but all our fave ingredients:
Avocado
Tomato
Peppers
Onions-2 types
Coriander
Fresh salsa
Beans
Sweetcorn
Topped with cheese of choice and Greek yoghurt (instead of sour cream)
All on top of some hand cooked tortilla (by the guy in the market)

💗As junior doctors both working shifts, we didn’t quite manage a honeymoon..
💗25 years later we wanted an anniversary beach holiday....but…we’ll have to wait for that one!
💗In the meantime, over the last few days, we turned the clock back to our first months together.
💗A few outings to reminisce at some significant places certainly brought a smile to our faces 😊
💗Grateful for all the blessings and love 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

💛My husband loves nothing better than his favourite ‘peas and potato shaak’ (curry) served with hot buttered chapatti💛
💛Best eaten with your hands, it really is finger-licking good!👌🏽👌🏽
💛They say ‘nostalgia is the best ingredient’ and this dish reminds my husband of his lovely late mum, so I rustled it up for our anniversary weekend/Valentine dinner tonight (also enjoyed by my father-in-law who is visiting!).

💛On a weekly basis I meet brave parents and children managing a whole range of health (and social) issues, and they truly truly inspire me with their resilience and courage.
💛I too have faced challenging times, especially in the last few months, but even the darkest days have taught me about my strengths and abilities to ‘steady the ship’ when the waves are rough.
💛From these experiences I have learnt one important lesson-
🌟The Universe will provide you with exactly what you need, when you need it, if you are open to accepting🌟
At the right time, people and messages and tools have come into my life just when I have needed them most.
💛My deepest gratitude to all of them..
