The line between aesthetic procedures and beauty treatments is often blurred.

Aesthetic treatments like botox, fillers and thread lifts are MEDICAL treatments and should only be performed by appropriately trained medical clinicians such as doctors and dentists 🩺

But due to the dire lack of regulation in aesthetic medicine in the UK, you don't need to be medically trained to offer aesthetic treatment. That means anyone can legally buy filler or Botox and inject others.

So, if you're considering having an aesthetic procedure like Botox or fillers, you need to do your due diligence.

All medical treatments come with risks, but in untrained hands, those risks are significantly higher.

You only get one face. Keep it safe by seeing a well-trained medical practitioner who is thoroughly educated in facial anatomy and techniques for injecting different types of fillers.

And similarly, there is currently no set training standard for using laser or IPL machines, which can be very risky in the wrong hands.

These treatments should be obtained only from doctors, nurses or therapists trained to use them in an appropriate healthcare environment rather than a beauty salon.

Another poor woman with BDD (Body dysmorphic disorder) who overdid it. What bugs me most is who are these terrible practitioners who inject patients like this one? She can’t even talk properly because her lips won’t close due to overfilling.
I am really hoping that the future of dermal fillers will be more regulated and in the hands of ethical practitioners who don’t make a quick buck from the vulnerable.

Many people suffer from excessive sweating. This can effect underarms, hands or other body parts. Some of my patients only wear dark clothes I. Order to hide sweat patches, some avoid certain social situations or are afraid to exercise. They dread summer months as the problem usually gets worse.
I can offer a medical consultation to talk about therapy options and treatments.

Now is a good time to think about it before the weather gets warmer.

Amazing news! Save Face has managed to clarify the confusion for us medics in medical aesthetics!

The Department of Health, governing bodies for Dentists (GDC), Doctors (GMC) and Nurses (NMC), Bristish Association of Cosmetic Nurses, (BACN), British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM), Trading Standards, JCCP, Environmental Health and the Government have declared registered Healthcare Professionals can resume their medical aesthetic services.

* All of my appointments are taking place at Centennial Medical Care, Elstree. This is a CQC registered private hospital, not a beauty clinic.

* Patients will be asked to confirm if they (and members of their household) have been healthy for the last 2 weeks without COVID symptoms.

* Patients will be asked to wear masks and to sanitise their hands when entering the clinic, temperatures will be taken.

* There will be no waiting in the waiting area or any crossover with other patients

* the clinic rooms will be thoroughly cleaned before and after each patient

* Doctors, HCPs and reception staff are wearing masks, gloves and aprons

* We do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our patients.

This is Soho last night. But my aesthetic clinic can not reopen because of the danger of COVID transmission despite PPE, risk assessment and very carefully adapted systems at my clinic.
Makes so much sense, Boris!

If medical professionals specialise in Aesthetics, they usually do so thoroughly. They spend hundreds of hours learning the theory and the skills. There will always be someone cheaper down the road but you will usually get what you pay for.

Who are these ‘ Cosmetic surgery practitioners’ who are still seeing clients for Dermal Fillers and Botox’?? I hope they get reported and their business goes down!
Any Medical Professional with proper education working in Aesthetics have closed their clinics for the time being and those who can, have applied their knowledge to the NHS or their other clinical jobs instead of doing non essential work putting themselves and their patients at risk!

What is Botulinum Toxin? FAQs answered

It is an extremely neurotoxic protein produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum.
When injected into a muscle it will prevent the transmission of signals from the nerve to the muscle and cause a paralysis of the muscle.

Botulinum Toxin is being used in extremely small quantities that don’t spread systemically.

How does Botox prevent wrinkling of the skin?
By paralysing the underlying facial muscles the skin is not being pulled into folds and wrinkles.

How long does it last?
Around 4-6 months, depending on the use it can last mich longer.

Which uses can we apply Botulinum Toxin for?
It is a versatile agent. It currently is being used for Wrinkle-relaxing injections, treatment of the masseter muscle for Bruxism treatment (teeth grinding) or jaw slimming, for Hyperhydrosis treatment of the armpits, hands and feet, migraine treatment. These are the uses in Medical aesthetics but there are many other uses in other areas of medicine.

Who can inject Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum Toxin products are ‘prescription only medicines’ (POM). These are meant to be administered by Healthcare professionals who can prescribe medicines after a medical face to face consultation and examination. Unfortunately due to a lack of regulations in the aesthetic market, there are many non-Healthcare Professionals who get prescribers to prescribe for them and offer these treatments in their salons. This will hopefully change in the near future and bring this medical treatment back to where it belongs: in the hands of trained doctors, nurses and dentists. Currently it is in the hands of the patient to ask the provider what their qualifications are, where they trained in aesthetic facial injections, how they are insured and how experienced they are. Botulinum Toxin need to be treated as what it is: a potent medicine.
