We don’t usually like to talk about poo. But I’m going to.

You see, for someone who suffers from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) their poo can take over their life. They’re really careful about what they eat and they worry about eating out in restaurants or at friends’ houses in case it sets off unpleasant symptoms – diarrhoea, needing the toilet urgently, constipation, bloating, pain, excess gas and any combination of those.

I help people struggling with the daily stress, pain and discomfort of IBS to get relief from their symptoms, so that they can eat without anxiety and have the confidence that they’ll feel well enough to go wherever they want and do whatever they want.

If you, or anyone you know, turns down social invitations or is being held back from taking up opportunities at work, travelling and going on holiday for fear of what their IBS will do, I’m running a free webinar on 3 clinically proven ways to get relief from IBS symptoms, without medication or restricting what you eat.

Don’t let anyone tell you that ‘you just have to live with your IBS’. You can do things to make it better. This webinar will show you those things.

You can register on Eventbrite by clicking below.

I'm delighted to be speaking on Sleep and Anxiety at the 'Me-No-Pause - Thrive, Don't Just Survive' event at St Michael's Church, Southfields on 19th November.

It's open to any woman approaching, going through, or just wanting to know more about the menopause, not just members of the St Michael's congregation.

To book and for more information, go to: https://stmichaelssouthfields.churchsuite.com/events/ewy6bk01

As well as me, speakers include a Menopause GP, Women's Health Physio and Personal Trainer and a session with Amy Boucher Pye, author, speaker and spiritual director. Amy will speak on identity (as our roles start to change) and connecting with God (at a time when our heads may be foggy). There will be a time of worship and prayer and the event finishes with dinner and one-woman comedy show.

Let's aim to thrive, not just survive, as we discuss how to prepare for and manage this stage of every woman's life well.

Christian Mindfulness Practice sessions are going online. Would you like an hour of calm to pause, breathe and still your mind?

Mindfulness is all about 'taking thoughts captive', being present and so being more aware of God. The sessions include several mindfulness exercises and meditations to provide a space for this.

Colossians 3 encourages us to: 'Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things'. I will include a meditation on this in the June session.

Next sessions are: 20th June and 25th July, 9.30am to 10.30am on Zoom.

Please book on: https://christianmindfulnesspractice.eventbrite.co.uk

The cost is £7.50 plus booking fee

Some knowledge of mindfulness is helpful, but not essential. Please contact anne@christiantherapyuk.com for more information.

So true - take the pressure off yourself and be kind.

So true - take the pressure off yourself and be kind.

So much of what we are reading about is achievement-focused. It can feel like the only way to succeed in this season is to me massively productive and use the time really well.🙇‍♂️

But at the same time many of us are dealing with changes and challenges that have raised our stress and anxiety level. Even walking down the street presents the possibility of challenges and things we might need to do to reduce risk. And all of this means that our minds are on overdrive - a kind of high alert, constantly scanning the environment for the next thing that might happen, the latest change or any new threats.

When your brain is in that place, focusing on any one thing becomes really hard - because the system that usually lets you drop your awareness of the world around you so you can 'zoom in' on something is doing precisely the opposite and warning you it might be risky to do that. And all this plays havoc with our productivity - particularly for tasks that require you to get 'in the zone' like creativity or problem solving.

So what can you do? Recognise that this is an unusual time and take the pressure off. You don't have to achieve to win at lockdown - just getting through is a success in its own right. Do what you can to drop your overall stress level - find ways to rest and relax and limit your exposure to anxiety triggering news broadcasts.

And try to break down bigger tasks into things which are more achievable with a twitchy mind - look for small things you can achieve to help your motivation and focus. But, most of all, be - this is not a sign you are rubbish, it is a sign of your human response to an extreme situation, and it will pass.

It's normal to be experiencing significant levels of anxiety whilst living a life of faith; trusting wholeheartedly in the promises of God. This is evident in the lives of thousands of anxious Christians who, by virtue of their struggles, largely reflect a deeper level of trust and commitment to God than those untouched by anxiety.

Are trust and anxiety mutually exclusive? Absolutely not. Is anxiety a reliable measure of a person's trust? Absolutely not. Does the absence of anxiety demonstrate the depth a person’s trust in God? Absolutely not. Is anxiety a sin? Absolutely not.

Does God care about your anxiety and want you to know that you can trust him despite what your anxious mind is telling you? Yes he does.
