Meet our little miracle kitten! 💖

Just a couple of weeks ago, during the blazing heatwave, this tiny bundle of fluff was found abandoned by a kind member of the public. Sadly, they couldn’t catch mum, but this little one wasn’t well—and that’s likely the reason she could be caught.

She was taken to another vet practice who gave her a few days to see how she did... But, as a stray they were only allowed Todo limited treatment. 🥺

Luckily, one of our former team members happened to be there and knew this little girl deserved a chance. So they scooped her up and brought her to us—knowing we can’t say no to a kitten in need, stray or not! 😻

She was *very* poorly when she arrived, and things got worse overnight. She was battling a nasty case of cat flu and blood tests revealed dangerously low red blood cell levels (PCV) — we were prepping for a blood transfusion and trying to find a donor kitty. But then… magic happened! ✨

Overnight she perked up, and with lots of IV fluids, antibiotics, round-the-clock nursing, nebulisers, syringe feeds, and a *whole lot* of TLC, she started to turn a corner! 🌈

Day by day she got stronger, cheekier, and more playful — and now she’s thriving in her new forever home! 🏡💕

Swipe through to see her amazing transformation — and remember, every life matters, even the tiniest ones 🐱💪

Does anyone recognise this kitten?

We had this little kitten brought into us today after being found in Dorset Road, Mottingham. She’s far too young to be allowed out so it’s likely she’s managed to escape or possibly been dumped.

If you think she is yours, proof will be needed to be reunited with her.

🌞 Meet Summer – our surprise superstar mum of five! 🐾

Summer first came to us as a stray and ........ surprise! Summer had a little secret – she was pregnant! 😮🐱

Thanks to our friends at Cats Protection, an emergency foster home was found (because a busy vet clinic isn’t exactly ideal for a mum-to-be!). She kept everyone on edge, waiting and watching, and then – finally – the big day arrived! 🎉

She delivered 3 healthy kittens at home like an absolute pro... but then things paused. 🐾⏸ We’d previously scanned her and expected 5 kittens, so when nothing more happened, her foster rushed her down to us – and good thing too! A quick x-ray showed the 4th kitten was breech and stuck – not good.

Cue emergency mode! Our team were prepping for surgery when they pulled out one last trick (we're always full of surprises! 😉). Some meds and a lot of encouragement later, with a helping paw from our amazing head nurse Clare, the stuck kitten was safely delivered – alive and meowing! 🎉🐱

Kitten #5 followed shortly after (also breech, just to keep us on our toes). No surgery needed, and mum and all five babies are doing brilliantly! 🥰

We’re SO proud of Summer and our team. It just goes to show – we’re more than just vet nurses. Sometimes we’re midwives, miracle-workers, and proud aunties, too. 💪💗

👟🌱 **GRASS SEED STRIKES AGAIN!** 🌱👟

Here’s your *very real* reminder that grass seeds are EVERYWHERE right now - One of our nurses managed to get caught by them as well. Fortunately they were well behaved and we managed to remove without sedation and no complications.😅

On a serious note though these pesky little seeds can sneak into paws, ears, eyes and even up noses – causing pain, infections, and sometimes needing surgery to remove 😱

🚨 **What to watch for in your pets:**
🐾 Licking or chewing paws
👂 Head shaking or ear scratching
👁️ Squinting or eye discharge
🐶 Sudden limping after a walk

🛑 **Top tips:**
✅ Check between toes after EVERY walk
✅ Keep ear hair tidy in fluffier breeds
✅ Avoid long grass when possible

If you spot anything suspicious, don’t wait – we’re here to help! 🌾💚

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the news that our beloved practice cat Fatty went to sleep for the final time yesterday.

He has been with us for over 16 years and was a huge part of the practice. He came to us when his owners couldn’t look after him anymore and has ruled the practice ever since. He will have greeted many of you over the years especially when he was younger and would sit on reception waiting for people to come in so he got all the attention! At 20 years 11 months he was much slower and slept a lot but some of you would have still seen him getting up on reception in recent months. Sadly his health declined in recent weeks and we made the heart breaking decision to say goodbye. He was our longest serving practice cat and will be greatly missed by all of us and we are sure many of you.
RIP our sweet boy ❤️.

🌞 HOT WEATHER WARNING FROM THE PASSEY PLACE TEAM! 🌞

Phew! It’s not just hot… it’s pavement-melting, fur-sizzling, ice-cream-melting-before-you-blink HOT! And with the temperatures still climbing, we need to talk about pet safety 🐾

Every year, we sadly treat cases of heat stroke in dogs – and it’s not a myth, it can be fatal. 💔
This isn't just about our canine companions either – rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small furries are at serious risk when left in direct sunlight or warm spaces.

🚫 Here’s what to AVOID:
🐕 Walking your dog in the middle of the day – if it’s too hot for your hand on the pavement, it’s too hot for their paws!
🐇 Leaving hutches in sunny spots – shade moves and so should they!
🚗 Leaving pets in cars – even for a “minute”!

✅ DO THIS INSTEAD:
🌅 Walk dogs before 8am or after 8pm when it’s cooler
🛁 Bring small pets indoors – a cool bathroom or shaded room works wonders
💧 Keep fresh water topped up and offer frozen treats and damp towels to chill out

We know you love your pets as much as we do, so let’s all make smart choices and keep them safe in the sun ☀️🐶🐰

📸 Got a pic of your pet chilling out in the shade or loving a frozen treat? Share it below! Let’s spread summer cool vibes only! 😎

🚨 STOP! Don’t Try This TikTok Trend on Your Pet!🚨

We’ve seen some *dangerous misinformation* doing the rounds on TikTok — people suggesting giving **ibuprofen to dogs**. 😱
Please **DO NOT** give **ibuprofen or ANY human painkillers** to your pets — this can be **highly toxic and even deadly**.

🐾 **Why it's dangerous:**

* **Dogs and cats can't metabolise ibuprofen like humans.**
* It can cause **stomach ulcers, kidney failure, seizures**, and in severe cases, **death**.
* Cats are even more sensitive — just a small dose can be life-threatening! 😿

🚑 **What to do if your pet ingests ibuprofen:**
👉 Contact your vets urgently!
👉 Or contact the **Animal PoisonLine: 01202 509000**

Even if it's “just a small amount” — it’s better to be safe than sorry.

🐶❤️ Remember: **If your pet’s in pain, talk to a vet — not TikTok.** We’re trained, they’re trending.

🫁🐶 **DON’T MISS THIS DANGEROUS PARASITE – Is Your Pet Protected Against Lungworm?**

**Lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum)** is a potentially deadly parasite that affects dogs, and it’s becoming increasingly common in the UK. It’s spread by slugs and snails, so even sniffing around the garden or drinking from puddles can put your dog at risk.

What’s scary? Not all worming treatments protect against lungworm – especially many bought over the counter or online. 😱

✅ Prevention is key – and choosing the right product could save your dog’s life.
🚫 **Don’t assume** all wormers cover everything – check the label or ask your vet.

---

🐾 At Passey Place Vets, we recommend regular treatment with a product that *does* cover lungworm. See the comparison chart bellow. Be careful because a lot that can be got from Pet Shops DO NOT cover lungworm.

💬 Not sure if your dog is protected?

Pop in or give us a call – we’re happy to check what you’re using and help you keep your pet safe.

** OWNER FOUND & REUNITED **

Does anyone recognise this poor boy?

He has been hanging around for about a week in Court Farm Road. He is chipped but details so far are seemingly not up to date. He isn’t neutered. He is a bit under the weather and a bit skinny.
